GoSystem Tax RS is Thomson Reuters' cloud tax preparation software for large CPA firms, built for consolidated 1120s, big partnerships and multistate work, with 1040, 1041, 990, 706, 709 and 5500 returns alongside, sold by quote only.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
The release schedule for tax year 2025 lists 1040, 1041, 1065, 706, 709, 990, 5500 and eight 1120 variants (1120, 1120-C, 1120-S, 1120-RIC, 1120-REIT, 1120-PC, 1120-L and 1120-F), with federal applications released on 21 November 2025 and e-file from 9 January 2026 (checked 11 October 2026). Thomson Reuters also publishes a release and e-file availability lookup by return type and jurisdiction; as captured on 9 October 2026 it showed 174 federal, state and local 1120 return lines released and 109 approved for e-file, an Audit Friendly count that should be read as an estimate. The product page adds life insurance mixed groups and tax equalization returns. Coverage is US federal, state and local.
Data moves in through Data Connection, Direct K-1, Partner Bridge, trial balance import and an Excel add-in with get and set functions, and out to Planner CS and Bloomberg Tax Planner (help center and release schedule, checked 9 October 2026). The API, GoSystem Events webhooks and OData feed connect workpapers, dashboards and other systems, and SurePrep links through that same API with Live Sync. The product page says a client added in time-and-billing software sets up the return and starts a FirmFlow workflow. MyTaxInfo, a licensed client questionnaire portal, collects data; delivery and e-signature sit in SafeSend.
The help center documents firm, regional and location administrators, group rights, SAML single sign-on that can be made mandatory, multi-factor sign-in through the Thomson Reuters Authenticator app, logon-hour limits, and login activity and time log reports (checked 9 October 2026). Review uses diagnostics, overrides, tick marks and an audit trail that depends on correcting data in the Organizer, and release 25-5F (21 May 2026) finished compute-time e-file business rule and schema checks for 1040s. The mark is held down because Thomson Reuters' public Trust Center lists product security profiles for ONESOURCE Income Tax and SurePrep but none for GoSystem Tax RS, so the SOC report has to be requested.
The product page describes several people working in one return at once, batch processing and multitiered consolidated corporate returns, and the release schedule adds 1120 consolidations for mixed groups and 1065 consolidations. Admin reports chart returns opened by hour to show peak load. What breaks first is availability at peak: the status history shows at least 11 unplanned incidents affecting GoSystem Tax RS in 2026 (checked 11 October 2026), including errors opening returns on 22 January, 28 January and 3 February, failed logins on 18 February and a blank-screen incident on 13 September, plus planned outages of 12 hours (26 June 2026) and a full weekend (6 to 8 December 2024). The grade reflects that incident count, most of it inside the filing season.
The help center lists phone support on weekdays from 9am to 8pm ET, a case management portal and dedicated toll-free numbers for Firm Edition customers (checked 11 October 2026). It also links to a support schedule that, as captured on 9 October 2026, showed Saturday hours around the March, April, September and October deadlines; confirm seasonal hours with Thomson Reuters. Since 31 July 2023 Thomson Reuters asks callers whether Section 7216 consent is in place before routing them to support staff outside the United States. Independent evidence is thin: the Journal of Accountancy survey rates only the seven most used products, and GoSystem Tax RS, at under 1 percent of respondents, is outside that group.
No MCP server exists for GoSystem Tax RS in Thomson Reuters documentation, the official MCP registry or GitHub (checked 9 October 2026). The public API is the strong part: Thomson Reuters describes 40 to 50 REST APIs that read and write return data, validate, create and submit e-files, print, import and export, with webhook events and, since release 25-5F, OData access to a data lake. Inside the product there is no documented AI assistant; extraction and drafting come from SurePrep and Ready to Review, which are separate products with vendor-claimed results.
Thomson Reuters' Tax Data Conversion Service converts 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120C and 1120S data from CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, Lacerte, ProSeries and UltraTax CS, and 990 data from the two CCH products (conversion overview, checked 9 October 2026). Converted returns are rolled-over starting files, each client consumes two locators, and carryovers land on special conversion screens for review. A large firm also has to set up locations, groups, tax defaults, single sign-on and API applications, and Thomson Reuters publishes no timeline for that work.
No price appears on the product page; buyers get a demo form and a sales number (checked 11 October 2026). A tax year 2020 add-on order form, still posted on that date, shows the units, additional locators, additional users and prior-year access, and points to a Transactional Addendum that is not public. The only public figure found is CPA Practice Advisor's June 2020 review, which put the entry point at about $4,000 a year for a single-user system.

You are buying the tax engine Thomson Reuters aims at large firms with hard returns. GoSystem Tax RS runs in a browser and lets several preparers work in the same return at once. Its release schedule for tax year 2025 covers 1040, 1041, 1065, 990, 5500, 706 and 709 plus eight 1120 variants, including 1120-PC, 1120-L, 1120-F, RIC and REIT, with consolidations for mixed groups (checked 9 October 2026). Around the engine sits a REST API that reads and writes return fields, runs print, import and e-file jobs, and pushes status events to a webhook. In a Forrester study Thomson Reuters commissioned (September 2024), a tax automation manager called import and export capability a huge piece of the decision to invest.
The catch is everything around the engine. Pricing is quote only, built on locators (one per return), users and modules, with transactional fees set in an addendum Thomson Reuters does not publish. The product documents no AI assistant of its own: document extraction is SurePrep and 1040 drafting is Ready to Review, both separate products. Thomson Reuters' status page logs at least 11 unplanned incidents affecting the product in 2026, among them failed logins on 18 February and a blank-screen incident late on 13 September, two days before the 15 September extended deadline for calendar-year partnerships and S corporations. Fewer than 1 percent of the 1,808 CPAs in the 2026 Journal of Accountancy survey used it, so independent ratings are thin.
Before signing, get in writing: the locator count, user count and tax applications in the license, and the rate for extra locators; the Transactional Addendum with every fee it sets; whether API access, GoSystem Events and the OData data lake are included or priced separately; the renewal cap for the next two filing seasons; the conversion scope and date for your current package, including how many locators the conversion will consume; the current SOC report for the hosted service; and how long prior-year returns stay readable if the firm leaves.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
The release schedule shipped 1120 consolidations on 9 January 2026 and consolidations for mixed groups on 30 January 2026. The product page lists life insurance returns with mixed-group filings as a supported specialty. Check your own state combined filings against the e-file availability table before committing.
Partner data comes in through Direct K-1, Partner Bridge workbooks and special allocation imports, and the API page describes importing hundreds of partners into a partnership return in real time. The file sets change often in season, so firms with their own templates need someone watching the download page.
Trial balances, fixed asset files, Schedule M data and 1099 consolidated statements import into the return, and an Excel add-in maps a firm's own workpapers to return fields. The Forrester study (September 2024) rests on four interviews, two of them GoSystem Tax RS users. Treat the figure as a ceiling to test on your own returns.
Release 25-5F (21 May 2026) added the submitting user's login ID and the IRS submission ID to e-file status events. Thomson Reuters points to a prebuilt Power BI e-file dashboard on its Marketplace. Firms need administrator rights in API Administration and a sales conversation to subscribe to Events.
Since tax year 2024 conversions land in the same tax year, so reviewers see converted data earlier and roll it forward themselves. CCH Axcess and ProSystem fx data can be converted in the office or sent to Thomson Reuters. Only the two CCH products convert 990 returns.
SurePrep connects to GoSystem Tax RS through the API for tax year 2024 onward, and Live Sync pushes binder data into the return in real time. SurePrep is a separate license. Without the API activation step, firms cannot create binders or document request lists for the year.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Annual license priced on locators (one per return), users and the tax applications a firm needs. An enterprise base license exists for the largest firms.
Listed as order items on a tax year 2020 add-on form that was still posted on 11 October 2026. Conversions use two locators per client: one for the converted year and one to roll forward.
A tax year 2020 add-on form, still posted on 11 October 2026, says transactional fees apply as stated in the GoSystem Tax RS Transactional Addendum, a contract document that is not public.
Access to earlier tax years on the hosted system is listed as an order item on a tax year 2020 add-on form that was still posted on 11 October 2026.
API access is set up through an onboarding request and the API Admin Portal; GoSystem Events webhooks are subscribed through a sales representative. Thomson Reuters does not say publicly whether either is included in the base license.
A client questionnaire portal for collecting tax information; the help center says it is limited to firm accounts with a MyTaxInfo license.
Thomson Reuters converts data from CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, Lacerte, ProSeries and UltraTax CS through order forms; fees are not published.
The product page carries no price, only a demo form and a sales line (checked 11 October 2026). A tax year 2020 add-on order form, still posted on that date, shows that firms buy locators and users, and it says transactional fees apply under a GoSystem Tax RS Transactional Addendum that Thomson Reuters does not publish. The only public figure found is a June 2020 CPA Practice Advisor review citing about $4,000 a year for one user. Ask for the addendum, the extra-locator rate and a multi-year renewal cap in the first quote.
Thomson Reuters says its conversion follows the industry approach of creating rolled-over returns and that an exact copy of the filed return is out of scope (conversion overview, checked 9 October 2026). Carryovers such as NOLs, passive losses and capital losses land on separate conversion screens for review. Because conversion is current year to current year, each client needs one locator for the converted year and a second to roll forward. The page warns firms against converting duplicate clients or test returns for that reason.
Thomson Reuters' status history lists at least 11 unplanned incidents affecting GoSystem Tax RS from January to September 2026 (checked 11 October 2026). They include errors opening returns on 22 January, 28 January and 3 February, failed logins for about an hour on 18 February, a slow e-file viewer on 13 March, three days before the 16 March deadline for calendar-year partnerships and S corporations, and a blank screen late on 13 September, two days before the 15 September extended deadline. Planned maintenance took the product offline for 12 hours on 26 to 27 June 2026 and from 6 to 8 December 2024. The e-file postmark is set when the file reaches Thomson Reuters' host, so build slack into deadline-day filing.
Thomson Reuters' Trust Center lists product security profiles, with SOC reports and bridge letters behind a sign-in, for products including ONESOURCE Income Tax, SurePrep and Checkpoint. GoSystem Tax RS is not on that list (checked 9 October 2026). The page tells buyers with product-specific needs to contact their account representative. Ask for the current SOC report covering the hosted GoSystem Tax RS service before the contract is signed, and confirm the period it covers.
The GoSystem Tax RS help center describes no AI feature inside the product (checked 9 October 2026). Document extraction comes from SurePrep, delivery and e-signature from SafeSend, and agentic 1040 drafting from Ready to Review, which Thomson Reuters said would reach general availability in the United States in December 2025. Ready to Review handles 1040s; business entity support is described as roadmap. Each is a separate product to license and connect.
Thomson Reuters staffs support from shared service centers outside the United States and, since 31 July 2023, asks callers whether IRC Section 7216 consent is in place (help center, checked 11 October 2026). Without it, the call routes to the next available agent who can help without consent. Thomson Reuters says it does not store client consent information, so the firm has to track consent itself. Decide the firm's consent policy before busy season.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No. Thomson Reuters publishes no MCP server for GoSystem Tax RS. The official MCP registry returns no GoSystem or Thomson Reuters entry, and a GitHub search for a GoSystem MCP server returns nothing (checked 9 October 2026). Thomson Reuters does run a hosted CoCounsel Legal MCP connector for legal research in Claude; it does not reach tax returns.
Scope: The agent surface is the GoSystem Tax API, a REST API on api.thomsonreuters.com with OAuth and the scope urn:tr:gosystem:auth:api:taxreturn. Thomson Reuters' API page says the endpoints validate, create and submit e-files and retrieve acknowledgement statuses, print returns or K-1 packages to PDF, import and export through Data Connection and Direct K-1, and read or write information in a return in real time, with Live APIs for 990, 1040, 1041, 1065 and 1120. GoSystem Events pushes e-file, print and import or export status to a webhook. Release 25-5F (21 May 2026) added OData APIs over a new data lake and retired the old SOAP services.
Turnkey: No. A firm administrator creates a user or machine application in the API Admin Portal, picks the gateway company, the product APIs, groups and permissions, and manages a client secret or certificate. Credentials are issued through a Thomson Reuters developer account. SurePrep's setup guide tells firms to allow 1 to 5 business days for an API request to be fulfilled. Any agent connection is custom code; Thomson Reuters offers consultant-led API 101 and 102 courses built around Postman and Excel VBA.
In-product AI: the GoSystem Tax RS help center documents no AI assistant. AI arrives through adjacent Thomson Reuters products. SurePrep, the 1040 automation product, syncs binder data into returns through the API. Ready to Review, an agentic 1040 drafting app, was described at its June 2025 preview as built on the GoSystem Tax engine (reported by CPA Practice Advisor). In the November 2025 launch release, an Indiana firm said it cut about an hour from each simple 1040, which is a vendor-supplied claim. Ready to Review covers 1040s today, with business entity support on its roadmap.
The status page logged GoSystem Tax RS displaying a blank screen from 11:20pm Central on 13 September 2026; it was marked resolved about 75 minutes later.
The release introduced a redesigned Data Query on a new data lake with OData APIs, finished compute-time e-file checks for 1040s, extended the GetFilingMethod API to all tax types and ended SOAP web services.
Thomson Reuters reported customers getting an error when opening a tax return, mitigated at 7:30pm Central the same day. A similar incident followed on 3 February 2026.
The first full release shipped 1040, 1041, 1065, 706, 709 and eight 1120 variants, plus trial balance, Partner Bridge templates and Fixed Assets CS import. Federal e-file followed on 9 January 2026.
Thomson Reuters put Ready to Review into a US early adopter program with general availability planned for December 2025, and said CoCounsel was in use at more than 1,300 firms.
Thomson Reuters announced CoCounsel for tax and accounting and previewed Ready to Review, an agentic tax prep app described as built on the GoSystem Tax Engine (reported by CPA Practice Advisor).
Thomson Reuters does not publish a price. The product page offers a demo request and a sales line (checked 9 October 2026).
Quotes are built on locators (one per return), users and the tax applications licensed, with transactional fees set in an addendum that is not public. The conversion help page also mentions an enterprise base license for the largest firms.
The only public figure found is from CPA Practice Advisor's June 2020 review: about $4,000 a year for a single-user system (reported). No public benchmark page was found for this product; SpendHound lists none (checked 11 October 2026). Budget separately for SurePrep, SafeSend, GoFileRoom and any API work.
Contract length, renewal uplift and exit terms are not published. A tax year 2020 add-on order form, still posted on 11 October 2026, says items added through it are good for one tax year and that multi-year orders go through customer service.
For data, the documented routes are print to PDF, tax return import and export file sets, Data Connection exports and the API, which Thomson Reuters says can export return data and read field values. The same add-on form lists prior-year access on RS and an RS Archive on DVD as order items.
Thomson Reuters also publishes a locator transfer form for conversions from GoSystem to its own UltraTax CS. Ask how long prior-year returns stay readable after cancellation and what an archive costs.
Thomson Reuters publishes no timeline. Audit Friendly's estimate is one off-season, because the 2025 release calendar opened preseason rollover on 31 October and federal applications on 21 November.
The Tax Data Conversion Service converts 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120C and 1120S data from CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, Lacerte, ProSeries and UltraTax CS. CCH data can be converted in the office; other data goes to Thomson Reuters through a Secure Data Exchange.
The firm owns the rest: locations and groups, tax defaults, SAML single sign-on, multi-factor sign-in and any API applications. Plan reviewer time on the first converted returns, since carryovers arrive on separate conversion screens.
Only through custom code. There is no MCP server or hosted connector for GoSystem Tax RS (checked 9 October 2026).
Thomson Reuters says the GoSystem Tax API can read and write return fields in real time, run prints, imports and exports, and validate, create and submit e-files. A developer would need to wrap those endpoints as tools and a firm administrator would need to issue credentials in the API Admin Portal.
Because the API can submit an e-file, set permissions so an agent can prepare and check but a person releases the return.
