Trolley is a payouts platform for marketplaces, creator and music platforms and other internet businesses that pay many contractors, artists or sellers worldwide and want payee onboarding, W-9 and W-8 collection, 1099 or DAC7 reporting and identity checks in one embeddable product.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
The pricing page (checked 27 September 2026) lists every module price and a full per-payment fee table in five currencies: Pay and Tax $2,399 a year, Trust, Sync and Data Connectors $1,199, Accounting $699, ACH $1, international local transfer $4, wire with FX $10 and a 2 percent FX margin. Trolley Plus is quote only and no public contract benchmark exists. The terms let Trolley change the fee schedule with 60 days' notice.
The Tax product collects W-9 and W-8 forms, runs IRS TIN matching, e-files 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K and 1042-S as an IRS transmitter and builds DAC7 and OECD reports for 30 jurisdictions (tax pages and US terms, checked 27 September 2026). Payees are screened against OFAC, EU, OSFI and HMT watchlists, batches can require multiple approvers with per-approver limits, and Trolley holds a SOC 2 Type II report. There is no PO matching, the SOC 1 on the security page is AWS's, and the pricing table puts SOC 2 report access on Trolley Plus only.
Trolley pays by ACH, EFT, SEPA, FPS, NPP, BECS, IACH, SWIFT wire, check, PayPal and Venmo, added US debit card payouts on 7 May 2026 at 1 percent with a $1.50 minimum, and mobile wallets from July 2026 (blog posts). Payouts draw on a prefunded balance, and US balances on the Cross River Bank setup carry FDIC coverage up to $250,000 (31 October 2025). The 2 percent FX margin is high at list, and the API's payout methods include no virtual cards, card rebates, RTP or FedNow.
Sign-up is self-serve with a 30-day free trial that needs no card and a free sandbox; bank payouts start after a banking-partner onboarding of a few business days (FAQ). Trolley publishes a four-step migration plan without dates, and its case studies cite Multilingual Connections live in about a week and GigSalad moving about 18,000 payees within a 6-week window. NetSuite needs a SuiteBundle and token-based credentials set up by an admin (help center).
Trolley pays 210+ countries and territories in 135+ currencies and claims 5M+ recipients a year (vendor pages). The API docs recommend batches of up to 10,000 payments and limit a merchant to 100 requests a minute, with increases on Plus. Payers must have an office in the US, Canada, the UK, the EEA, Australia or New Zealand (FAQ), and cross-merchant recipient syncing and parent and child accounts sit on Trolley Plus.
The help center (updated 11 May 2026) lists email plus phone lines for North America and for the UK and Europe, staffed 8 AM to 6 PM EST on weekdays, with live chat only for Trolley Plus. A dedicated CSM, custom SLAs and granular roles are Plus features on the pricing page, and no response-time target is published. Capterra shows 4.7 of 5 from 36 reviews, with 4.9 for customer service from 35 ratings (reported, via a fetch on 27 September 2026).
Sync either pulls pending bills and vendors from QuickBooks Online or Xero and marks them paid, or posts journal entries; the two workflows cannot run together, and data refreshes 4 times a day on Standard (Sync FAQ, updated 3 October 2025). NetSuite is a Plus feature on the plan table, runs through a Hotglue bundle and is labeled beta on the integrations page; Business Central is confirmed only for journal entries. One ERP account per Trolley account, vendors need an email to sync, and there is no Sage Intacct or SAP connector.
In-product AI is new: invoice ingestion from email or Slack and a fraud blocklist were both announced on 31 October 2025, and accuracy and fraud figures are vendor claims. No first-party MCP server exists in the developer docs, the Trolley GitHub org or the official MCP registry (checked 27 September 2026); Pipedream's Trolley app page lists 0 actions. The REST API needs HMAC-signed requests, and the docs say the Tax product has no API access yet.

You are buying payout and payee operations for a platform. Payees onboard through a white-label portal or embedded widget, add bank details, sign W-9 or W-8 forms and pass ID checks. Trolley then pays them in 210+ countries and 135+ currencies by local bank transfer, wire, check, PayPal or Venmo, and since 2026 by US debit card and mobile wallet. At year end it generates and e-files 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K and 1042-S forms, and builds DAC7 and OECD platform reports. The price list is public: the Pay and Tax modules are $2,399 a year each, and an ACH payout costs $1 (checked 27 September 2026).
The catch is everything around the payment. There is no PO matching or GL coding, and invoice capture is a new AI ingestion feature announced on 31 October 2025. On the Standard plan the QuickBooks Online or Xero sync refreshes 4 times a day, one ERP account connects per Trolley account, and bill payment and journal-entry reconciliation cannot run together. The pricing page's plan table puts NetSuite on Trolley Plus while its $699 Accounting module card lists NetSuite as native; the connector runs through a Hotglue bundle and is labeled beta on the integrations page (checked 27 September 2026). SOC 2 report access, granular roles, live chat and a dedicated CSM are Plus features, and Plus is quote only. FX carries a 2 percent margin at list. There is no first-party MCP server (checked 27 September 2026), and the Tax product has no API.
Before signing, get in writing: the FX margin at your volume; whether NetSuite and near real-time sync are in your plan and generally available; access to the SOC 2 report; a higher liability cap than the US terms set (the lesser of CAD $100 or six months of fees, updated 1 May 2025); a data export at exit that includes full TINs, since the Tax Reporting Guide says exports carry masked TINs only; and the bank partner that will hold your balance, since FDIC coverage applies to US customers on the Cross River Bank setup.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Recipients pick their payout method in a branded portal or embedded widget, and payments go out in batches from a prefunded Trolley balance. Bank transfers typically arrive in 1 to 2 business days, per Trolley. Fees can be carried, split or passed to recipients.
Payees sign forms at onboarding, TINs are matched against IRS records, and W-8 forms are re-requested when they expire. Offline payments made outside Trolley can be uploaded so year-end statements are complete. Each IRS statement costs $2.00 on Standard.
The Tax product tags payments by reportable activity and builds year-end files for EU member states under DAC7 and for the UK, Australia and New Zealand under OECD rules. Standard covers one jurisdiction; two need Trolley Plus. Multi-jurisdiction reporting from one account arrived on 14 May 2026.
Debit card payouts over Visa Direct and Mastercard Send launched on 7 May 2026 for US merchants on Cross River Bank paying US recipients. Mobile wallet payouts followed in July 2026. The fee can be passed, split by percentage or fixed amount, or capped.
Trust checks IDs with a live photo, verifies business documents and phone numbers, screens OFAC, EU, OSFI and HMT watchlists and assigns a risk score. Each completed scan beyond 10 free a month costs $2.50. The guard blocklist fraud engine is rolling out in phases.
Payees send PDF, JPG or PNG invoices, and Trolley extracts lines, amounts, currency and due date, then matches or creates the recipient. Invoices then go through maker and checker steps before a batch is processed. Accuracy figures are vendor claims.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Domestic and international bank transfers, wallets and checks, white-label onboarding, payment approval workflows, fee splitting and invoices. Required to send payouts.
End-to-end tax compliance in one jurisdiction (US or EU): W-9 and W-8 collection, withholding and year-end statements; statements billed per form.
Adds 2 tax jurisdictions with statements included, NetSuite, near real-time sync, FX volume discounts, Revenue Stream, granular roles, SOC 2 report access, custom SLAs and a dedicated CSM.
Document collection, public data validation and photo ID verification, with 10 free scans a month.
Native QuickBooks Online and Xero integrations, 4 refreshes a day on Standard, plus Zapier integrations.
Listed as native QuickBooks Online, Xero and NetSuite integration; the plan table still reserves NetSuite for Trolley Plus.
Syncs data to warehouses such as AWS S3, Redshift and Snowflake and schedules exports.
ACH (USD) or EFT (CAD) from a USD account.
SEPA, FPS, NPP, BECS and IACH from a USD account.
Per wire from a USD account; SWIFT wires have a $20 minimum payment.
Trolley fee per payment; PayPal's own fees may still apply.
US debit card payouts at 1% with a $1.50 minimum; wallet and international card payouts at 1% with a $4.00 minimum plus FX.
Trolley's US Terms of Service (last updated 1 May 2025) limit aggregate liability to the lesser of CAD $100 or the fees paid over the previous six calendar months, and disclaim liability for the banks that actually move the money. Trolley may terminate access or discontinue the service at its discretion, and disputes go to Ontario law and Toronto courts. An order form overrides the terms, so negotiate the cap, termination notice and governing law there.
The pricing table (checked 27 September 2026) marks access to the SOC 2 report, granular user roles, a dedicated CSM, custom SLAs, API rate limit increases, FX volume discounts, two tax jurisdictions and NetSuite as Plus only. Standard allows one allow-listed IP and one domain. The help center says live chat is a Plus feature. Price Plus before comparing the $2,399 a year headline with rivals.
The Sync FAQ (updated 3 October 2025) says data refreshes at 2 AM, 8 AM, 2 PM and 8 PM Eastern, only one QuickBooks Online, Xero or NetSuite account can connect, and bill payment and journal-entry workflows cannot run together. Only pending bills sync, and vendors without an email are skipped. NetSuite connects through a Hotglue SuiteBundle, is labeled beta on the integrations page, and appears under both the $699 Accounting module and Plus on the pricing page. There is no Sage Intacct or SAP connector.
The pricing page (checked 27 September 2026) lists a 2.00 percent currency conversion margin that may be reduced at higher volumes, plus $10 per wire with FX. On $1 million a year of converted payouts, that is about $20,000, an Audit Friendly estimate at list. Payouts draw on a prefunded balance, and direct debit funding, offered to select US merchants, is capped at $50,000 with a 3 to 5 business day wait. Ask for a volume FX schedule in the order form.
Trolley's controls are batch approvals with per-approver limits and multiple approvers, plus a maker and checker flow for invoices added in May 2026. No page Audit Friendly read on 27 September 2026 describes PO matching, 3 way match or GL coding. Teams that need those controls on vendor bills should keep an AP tool upstream and use Trolley for the payout and tax layer.
The Tax Reporting Guide says full TINs are not exported for data security reasons, only masked TINs, and prior-year tax data locks at the end of the following year. The US terms have no clause on returning data at exit. If you may switch providers, get a written commitment for a full export of W-9 and W-8 data, TIN match results and filed statements.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
In-product AI is recent. Invoice ingestion, announced on 31 October 2025, reads PDF, JPG or PNG invoices sent by email or Slack, extracts line items, invoice number, due date, amounts, currency and payee, and matches or creates the recipient before approval. Trolley claims near-perfect accuracy on digital invoices; no independent account confirms it. The guard blocklist fraud engine, announced the same day, rolls out in phases to high-volume customers; Trolley says it identified over $12.5 million in fraudulent payouts over the prior year, a vendor claim.
Exists: no first-party server. The developer docs index (126 pages), the Trolley GitHub org (six SDK repositories) and the official MCP registry show no MCP server, and /mcp paths on trolley.com and api.trolley.com return 404 (probed 27 September 2026). Pipedream publishes a generic Trolley MCP page, but its app page says no Trolley actions are available yet. Zapier's Trolley app lists two triggers (Payment Status Updated and Recipient Updated) and ten actions, including Create Recipient, Add a Payment, Create a Batch, Process an Existing Batch and Send a Payment, which creates a batch and sends it to processing (checked 27 September 2026). A third-party automation MCP could reach those actions and move money, so confirm that batch approval rules apply to Zapier-submitted batches before connecting an agent.
Scope and setup: the REST API covers recipients, payout methods, batches, payments, invoices, offline payments, balances and verifications, with a free sandbox, webhooks, a Postman collection and SDKs in six languages. The docs say the Tax product has no API access yet, so tax forms and year-end statements stay in the dashboard. Every request must be signed with an access key and secret, which rules out a simple bearer-token config, and a merchant is limited to 100 requests a minute. Not turnkey: an agent needs a custom MCP wrapper and live keys, which the developer role cannot create.
Who wins for whom: Platforms paying contractors or sellers that need DAC7 and OECD reports alongside 1099s: Trolley. AP teams that want W-9 and W-8 capture plus 2 and 3-way matching at header and line level: Tipalti. NetSuite teams paying in USD that want PO matching and unlimited approval levels: Routable.
Tax forms, TIN matching, 1099 e-file. Trolley Tax collects W-9 and W-8 forms, runs IRS TIN matching, e-files 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K and 1042-S as an IRS transmitter, and screens payees against OFAC, EU, OSFI and HMT watchlists.
Where it loses: There is no PO matching, GL coding or bill routing, the SOC 1 on its security page is AWS's, and SOC 2 report access sits on quote-only Trolley Plus.

Tax forms and screening built in. Tipalti captures W-9 and W-8 forms with TIN matching, prepares 1099 and 1042-S reports, screens payees against OFAC and Do Not Pay before each payment, and matches invoices 2 and 3-way at header and line level.
Where it loses: Per-invoice fees are quote only above the $99 monthly entry price, and the services agreement promises a data download only during the term, while supplier tax forms and audit trails live in Tipalti.

Approvals and NetSuite PO matching. Routable runs unlimited approval levels and rules, matches bill lines to NetSuite PO lines 2 and 3 way with tolerances and holds payment on discrepancies, and carries SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II reports.
Where it loses: PO matching covers only NetSuite POs in USD and is an add-on on Scale, while OFAC, TIN and bank ownership checks are add-ons below Enterprise and e-invoicing is absent.

Who wins for whom: Platforms paying creators or sellers abroad that want a published fee for each payout rail and the option to pass fees to recipients: Trolley. Payers with suppliers in 200+ countries who want 25 currencies held and converted in one place: Tipalti. Platforms paying drivers or contractors instantly over RTP and FedNow: Routable.
Global payouts from a prefunded balance. Trolley pays from a prefunded balance by ACH, EFT, SEPA, FPS, NPP, BECS, IACH, SWIFT wire, check, PayPal and Venmo, with US debit card payouts at 1 percent ($1.50 minimum) since 7 May 2026.
Where it loses: Currency conversion carries a 2.00 percent margin at list, and the API's payout methods include no virtual cards, card rebates, RTP or FedNow.

Licensed global payouts, 200+ countries. Tipalti moves money itself by ACH, global ACH, SEPA, wire, check, PayPal and cashback virtual cards to 200+ countries, holding and converting 25 currencies under US and Canadian money transmitter and UK and EU e-money licenses.
Where it loses: Per-payment and FX conversion fees are quote only, the card cashback rate is not published, and Tipalti can draw its fees from the account that funds payee payments.

Instant, ACH, check and local rails. Routable pays over four ACH speeds, RTP and FedNow to 85 to 90 percent of US bank accounts, push to debit card, 11 check options, and local rails or SWIFT to 220+ countries.
Where it loses: There are no virtual cards or card rebates, per-payment fees are quote only, and the terms auto-enroll every client in an Instant Pay loan facility unless it opts out.

One account can now report across supported tax jurisdictions, and Trolley added IRIS-ready IRS filing and Combined Federal/State Filing for tax year 2026.
Wallet payouts for US, UK, Canadian and Australian merchants, launched in July 2026; the post cites 38 wallets in 25 countries at launch and 68 wallets in 32 countries after an August update.
Push-to-card payouts over Visa Direct and Mastercard Send for US merchants on Cross River Bank, at 1 percent with a $1.50 minimum and configurable fee splitting.
US customers onboarded on the new Cross River Bank setup get FDIC coverage on balances up to $250,000, per Trolley.
A fraud engine that tracks repeat bad actors and checks industry watchlists such as the Music Fights Fraud Alliance, rolling out in phases to high-volume customers.
Trolley announced AI extraction of invoice lines, amounts, currency and due dates from emailed or Slack-posted files, with automatic recipient matching; accuracy claims are the vendor's.
The modules are published. A US platform that needs payouts and 1099s buys Pay and Tax at $2,399 a year each, or $4,798 before fees (trolley.com/trolley-pricing, checked 27 September 2026). Trust, Sync and Data Connectors are $1,199 each, and Accounting is $699.
Fees then scale with volume. Paying 500 US contractors a month by ACH at $1 each and filing 400 IRS statements at $2 each brings the total to about $11,598 a year, an Audit Friendly estimate at list prices. Cross-border payouts add $4 per local transfer and a 2 percent FX margin, which usually outweighs the subscription. Trolley Plus is quote only, and no public contract benchmark exists.
Under the US terms (updated 1 May 2025), subscriptions run monthly or yearly and auto-renew unless either side gives 30 days' written notice. Fees are non-refundable, late invoices accrue 1.5 percent a month, the fee schedule can change with 60 days' notice, and liability is capped at the lesser of CAD $100 or six months of fees. An order form overrides the terms.
The terms say nothing about returning data at exit. If you turn off Sync, bills and recipients stay in Trolley. The Tax Reporting Guide says exports carry masked TINs only, so ask in writing for a full export of payee, tax form and filing data before you sign.
A hosted-portal rollout can start within days: sign-up is self-serve, the sandbox is free, and bank payouts begin after a few business days of banking-partner onboarding. Trolley's migration plan runs Kickoff, Build, Deploy and Go live but gives no dates. In its case studies, Multilingual Connections was running in about a week, and GigSalad moved about 18,000 payees within a 6-week window.
Your side supplies a payouts or AP lead to set fee policy and approvals, a developer for widget or API work, and an ERP admin. NetSuite needs a SuiteBundle and token-based credentials. Trolley provides customer success and developer advocacy staff, and a dedicated CSM on Plus.
Only through custom work or a third-party automation layer. Audit Friendly found no first-party MCP server in Trolley's developer docs, GitHub org or the official MCP registry on 27 September 2026. Pipedream lists a Trolley MCP page but no Trolley actions. Zapier's Trolley app lists two triggers and ten actions (checked 27 September 2026), including Create Recipient, Add a Payment, Create a Batch, Process an Existing Batch and Send a Payment, so an automation MCP connected to Zapier could create recipients and send money.
A developer can wrap the REST API in an MCP server. Each request must be signed with an access key and secret, the merchant limit is 100 requests a minute, and the Tax product has no API, so an agent cannot read tax forms or year-end statements. Keep batch approvals on and start with sandbox keys.
