Zamp is a managed sales tax service for US e-commerce and SaaS sellers and for accounting firms: its software calculates tax and tracks nexus while Zamp's own tax team registers, files, remits and answers state notices in the US and Canada for a quoted annual fee.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Zamp publishes a phone number, assigns an onboarding specialist and a dedicated account manager, and commits to start notice responses within 2 business days (zamp.com, 10 October 2026). Zamp says its staff include former state auditors. Independent evidence is thinner than the marketing: testimonials are vendor-selected, the 97.8 percent retention figure is Zamp's own, and its Trustpilot profile showed no reviews when read on 10 October 2026.
Zamp says most switching teams are live within a week, with a named onboarding specialist doing migration, nexus validation and setup (compare pages, 10 October 2026). New registrations take a typical 2 to 4 weeks per state. Connectors for NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Xero and Business Central include live installation support, while custom API builds must pass a certification checklist first.
Documented connectors cover NetSuite (SuiteTax and legacy tax), QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central, Rillet, Shopify, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, Stripe, Chargebee and Amazon. Sage Intacct, SAP and Acumatica were labelled coming soon on 10 October 2026, and the Shopify and Stripe connectors sync data for filing without calculating. CSV upload and the API fill the gaps; there are no webhooks.
Zamp says it maintains its own rate and taxability content for 12,000+ US jurisdictions with rooftop geolocation (developer docs and April 2026 funding coverage, both vendor statements). The docs list 219 product tax codes, and the US product page describes direct filing with home-rule localities. Full registration and filing reached Canada on 30 June 2026; other countries are calculation through the API, and the country count varies by page. Historical rates start in 2023 (docs FAQ).
The API is limited to 1,000 requests a minute with about 400ms P95 response, and a NetSuite batch run covers at most 3,000 transactions (developer docs, 10 October 2026). Multi-entity support is in the U.S. plan and a partner portal handles many clients. The service leans on a team Zamp put at 70 people in April 2026 for 1,200+ customers, and full compliance stops at the US and Canada.
Zamp's tax staff dual-check each return, customers can approve filings in the dashboard, and notices and audits are handled in house (product pages, 10 October 2026). The site footer still says SOC 2 compliance is in progress, no SOC 1 is named, and Zamp is absent from the SST certified provider list. The Zamp Commitment caps accuracy cover at 12 months of fees and ties it to an audit.
No public MCP server exists: Zamp describes one in private beta (blog, 27 April 2026) and the developer portal MCP only searches documentation. The public REST API covers calculations, transactions, registrations and filings, with no webhooks and no registration writes (docs FAQ, 10 October 2026). In-product AI claims, including 99.97 percent filing accuracy, are the vendor's own.
The pricing page (10 October 2026) lists three plans and no dollar amounts; the only public figure is a $199 a month starting price on Zamp's BigCommerce listing dated 11 May 2026. The terms reveal tiers by monthly transactions and states with automatic upgrades, fee changes at renewal on 30 days notice and a 12-month limit on discounts. The all-inclusive scope and the disclosed pass-through of state fees keep it out of the bottom band.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
Zamp sells a finished compliance outcome. One annual contract covers calculation, nexus tracking, state registrations, returns, remittance, notice responses and audit support, run by Zamp's own tax staff with a named account manager and a published phone line. The software underneath is real: a first-party tax engine with rooftop rates, a public REST API with a free 30-day sandbox, and connectors for NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central, Shopify and Stripe. Since 30 June 2026 the same service covers Canadian GST, HST, PST and QST.
The price is a conversation. Zamp's pricing page shows no dollar figure, and the contract terms describe tiers set by monthly transactions and state count that upgrade automatically after three months over the limit, which sits awkwardly beside the 'no surprises' marketing. The guarantee is narrower than the headline: accuracy cover is capped at the fees paid in the prior 12 months and applies to API customers when a bad result triggers an audit. Zamp's site footer still reads 'Compliance in progress for AICPA SOC2' (checked 10 October 2026) and no SOC 1 report is mentioned, which matters when a tax engine feeds the sales tax payable account. The MCP server Zamp described in April 2026 is a private beta with no public endpoint.
Get the tier limits into the order form: monthly transactions, number of states, entities and certificate count, plus the price of the next tier up. Ask for a renewal price cap, because the terms allow fee changes at renewal on 30 days notice and limit any discount to 12 months. Ask for the SOC 2 report type and period, the full Zamp Commitment wording as it applies to connector and filing customers, and the export format for transactions, filings and certificates, since data is held for retrieval for only 30 days after termination.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Zamp's team reconciles synced transactions, prepares each return, files it and pays the state by ACH, including local returns in home-rule jurisdictions. The customer gets a monthly filing notice and can approve or pause. Filing frequency changes and early-filing discounts are handled by Zamp.
Notices are forwarded or picked up from state portals, tagged by type and urgency, and answered by Zamp's tax staff, with the history kept in the account. If a notice becomes an audit, Zamp says it prepares the documentation and deals with the state. Tax mail still goes to the customer's registered address, so someone has to forward paper letters.
Sales from connected stores, billing systems and ERPs are measured against each state's threshold, alongside physical presence such as inventory in a 3PL warehouse. When a threshold is crossed, Zamp opens the registration for the customer to approve and its team files it. The Free plan includes a one-time nexus and exposure assessment.
Firms work through a partner portal with one view of obligations, filings, registrations and notices per client and role-based access for staff. The firm can refer clients to Zamp or white-label the service and keep the billing relationship. Zamp names Withum, Anchin, Frank Rimerman and Larson Gross among its firm partners.
Since 30 June 2026 Zamp tracks the CAD 30,000 small-supplier threshold, registers for GST/HST, QST and PST, then files and remits to the CRA, Revenu Quebec and the provincial authorities. It sits in the separate U.S. + Canada plan. The service was opened first to pilot customers, so ask how many Canadian returns Zamp has filed.
Uploaded PDFs are read for buyer, exemption type, covered states and dates, then tracked as one obligation per state with expiry alerts. Zamp checks the form, fields and dates and does not confirm authenticity with the state. Export was still in development on 4 September 2026, per the help center.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
One-time nexus and historical exposure assessment, product taxability review, a 30-minute consultation with a senior sales tax professional and a rate-limited 30-day API sandbox. No registration or filing.
Rooftop calculation, nexus monitoring with alerts at 80 percent of a threshold, state registrations, return preparation, filing and ACH remittance, notice management, audit support, multi-entity support, production API access and a dedicated account manager.
Everything in U.S. plus GST, HST, PST and QST calculation, Canadian threshold monitoring, registrations and filings, CAD support and Canadian tax specialists.
Zamp's BigCommerce app listing, last updated 11 May 2026, says one price covers everything and starts at $199 a month depending on the seller's situation. The figure does not appear on zamp.com/pricing.
Charged by the states and passed through; the subscription does not cover them. Examples in Zamp's help center: Colorado $70, Connecticut $100, Washington $50 plus $5 for a trade name.
Launched 19 August 2026 and switched on inside the existing account. A subscription limit warning sends the customer to the account manager to upgrade the tier; the limits are unpublished.
White-glove onboarding, data migration and transfer of existing registrations are listed in the paid plans. No implementation fee is published.
For Shopify merchants moving off Shopify Tax automated filing. The free months start at activation and need an onboarding date by 31 January 2027.
Zamp reviews the remaining Avalara commitment and offers a buyout, typically as a credit against the Zamp subscription.
Zamp markets one predictable price with no per-transaction fees. Its Terms and Conditions (checked 10 October 2026) define a transaction as any order posted to Zamp and say a customer that exceeds its tier's monthly transactions for three consecutive months, or its supported states beyond a one-state buffer, is upgraded automatically after an email notice five business days ahead. Annual payers are billed the prorated difference. Calculation-only customers are metered at one transaction per 10 API calls. Ask for every tier boundary and price in the order form.
The footer of zamp.com reads 'Compliance in progress for AICPA SOC2' (checked 10 October 2026), and the developer docs refer only to 'SOC 2 controls'. A trust center exists at trust.zamp.com, but Zamp's public pages name no completed Type 2 report and no SOC 1. Kintsugi and Numeral both state SOC 2 Type 2, and Avalara adds SOC 1 Type 2. If the auditors rely on the sales tax payable balance, ask Zamp for the report type, period and auditor before signing.
The Zamp Commitment page (checked 10 October 2026) covers uncollected tax, penalties and interest when an inaccurate API result triggers a state audit, up to what the customer paid Zamp in the prior 12 months, and only if the API was set up correctly and Zamp is told within 15 days of the audit notice. The filing commitment pays penalties and interest when Zamp causes a late return, provided the customer supplied complete data on time and the bank account had funds. Separately, the terms disclaim liability for inability to file and for delay, and cap other claims at 12 months of fees. Marketing lines such as 'Zamp owns the outcome' read wider than this, so attach the Commitment to the contract.
Zamp's country count changes by page: 100+ countries in the April 2026 funding coverage, 70+ in a Zamp blog comparison updated 15 September 2026, and 32 in the API docs (the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and the 27 EU states, VAT only). The CEO's 30 June 2026 post calls Canada the first time Zamp has run the full lifecycle beyond the US, and the April 2026 funding post says Zamp is partnering to serve customers selling overseas. A seller that needs VAT registration and returns in the UK or EU should ask who files them. Historical rates in the API start in 2023.
The integrations page (checked 10 October 2026) counts 37 platforms and labels Acumatica, Recurly, Sage Intacct, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, SAP, Tabs and Zoho as coming soon. The Shopify and Stripe connectors sync orders and invoices for reporting and filing; Zamp's docs recommend leaving calculation with Shopify's tax engine or Stripe Tax. The QuickBooks Online and Xero connectors lack address validation, and QuickBooks Desktop is unsupported. The API has no webhooks, and a NetSuite batch run covers at most 3,000 transactions.
Zamp's help center (article dated 5 September 2026) says filing notices go out on or after the 1st of each month, usually by the 5th, listing states, periods and estimated tax. The customer can approve in the dashboard or reply to pause, but if Zamp does not hear back it begins filing at the time on the notice. The terms make the customer responsible for supplying the prior month's transactions by the 5th and for keeping enough money in the remittance account. Route the notice to a monitored shared inbox and decide who signs off.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Zamp said on 27 April 2026 that it has 'an MCP in private beta' that lets accounting firms reach compliance data from their own AI tools. No public endpoint, documentation or tool list was found on 10 October 2026: the official MCP registry returns nothing for Zamp, mcp.zamp.com does not resolve, and the vendor's GitHub organization holds one repository, an Adobe Commerce extension. The developer portal at developer.zamp.com does expose an MCP endpoint, but it belongs to the documentation platform and offers three tools: search the docs, read doc pages and send feedback on a page.
Scope: The docs MCP reads published documentation only and cannot see account data. The working surface for an agent is the public REST API at api.zamp.com with a bearer API key. It can calculate tax, validate addresses, list the 219 product tax codes, create, update and delete transactions, and read companies, registrations and filings, including signed links to filed returns. The docs FAQ says the API cannot approve or start registrations and that there are no webhooks.
Turnkey: Nothing installs from a connector directory. A team would wrap the REST API in its own tool definitions and hold a production API key, which the docs say carries access to live tax data and is copied from the Integrations page of the app. A free 30-day sandbox key with 47 remote-seller states preloaded gives a safe place to test.
In-product AI, as the vendor describes it: agents prepare and submit returns, classify notices, clean transaction files and read uploaded exemption certificates across 38 form types, with tax staff reviewing the work. Zamp claims 99.97 percent filing accuracy and says one compliance person now does the work of 12; no independent account confirms either figure.
Zamp's Shopify filing partner page offers three free months of filing, registrations and notice support to merchants leaving Shopify Tax automated filing, with onboarding dates through 31 January 2027. The date shown is the page's last modification in Zamp's sitemap; the offer's start date is not published.
Uploaded certificates are read across 38 form types and tracked as one obligation per state with expiry alerts. Zamp says existing customers can switch it on through their account manager.
developer.zamp.com went live with a quickstart, full API reference and a free 30-day sandbox key preloaded with 47 remote-seller states. Zamp says the API itself predates the site.
Zamp calculation, historical sync, product taxability mapping and customer exemptions are available inside Rillet, with a free sandbox for testing.
Zamp extended registration, filing, remittance and notice handling to GST, HST, PST and QST across every province and territory, after a pilot with a small group of customers. It is sold as the U.S. + Canada plan.
The latest round was led by Acrew Capital with Thomson Reuters Ventures and several accounting firm partners. The same post describes an MCP server in private beta for accounting firms and a team of 70 people.
Zamp does not publish a price for its paid plans. The pricing page lists Free, U.S. and U.S. + Canada, and the two paid plans say 'Contact sales' (checked 10 October 2026). The only public figure is on Zamp's BigCommerce app listing, last updated 11 May 2026: pricing 'starts at $199/month' and depends on the seller's situation. Treat that as a floor for a small footprint. Audit Friendly found no public contract benchmark for Zamp, the sales tax company, as of 10 October 2026; a different company uses the same name.
The quote is a flat annual fee that covers calculation, registrations, filings, remittance, notices and support, with no per-filing or per-transaction charge. It is sized to a tier: Zamp's blog ties price to the number of states with nexus, and the contract terms tier by monthly transactions and states supported. State registration fees, usually under $100 each, are extra and go to the states.
For comparison, Numeral publishes $75 per return and Kintsugi's Starter plan starts at $75 per filing. A seller filing monthly in 15 states would pay about $13,500 a year on that model before registrations (Audit Friendly estimate: 15 states x 12 returns x $75). Ask Zamp to quote against that number and to name the tier limits in the order form.
The standard terms renew automatically for a term equal to the initial one unless either side gives notice at least 30 days before it ends. Zamp can change fees at renewal with 30 days notice by email, and any discount lasts at most 12 months unless agreed otherwise in writing. Exceed the tier's monthly transactions for three consecutive months, or its state count beyond a one-state buffer, and the account moves up a tier automatically (terms checked 10 October 2026).
On termination Zamp makes customer data available for electronic retrieval for 30 days and may delete it after that. The Filings API returns filed-return documents through signed links and the app provides a transaction export file; Zamp's help center said on 4 September 2026 that certificate export was still in development. Zamp says it hands over state portal credentials once a registration is done, so the state accounts stay with the customer. Download returns, payment confirmations and notice history before the 30 days run out.
Zamp says most teams switching from another provider are live within a week, and it assigns a dedicated onboarding specialist who migrates data, validates nexus and sets up the account (compare pages, checked 10 October 2026). The customer fills in company and registration questionnaires, connects its store, billing or ERP system, shares state portal access and authorizes ACH debits.
New registrations move at the states' pace: Zamp quotes 2 to 4 weeks per state as typical. Connector installs for NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Xero and Business Central come with live installation support, and a free 30-day sandbox is available for API testing. A custom API integration has to pass Zamp's certification checklist before go-live, so budget developer time for that.
Only through the REST API today. Zamp said in April 2026 that it has an MCP server in private beta for accounting firms, but no public endpoint, documentation or tool list was available on 10 October 2026. The MCP endpoint on developer.zamp.com belongs to the documentation site and only searches and reads docs.
With a production API key and a wrapper a team builds itself, an agent can calculate tax, look up product tax codes, post or correct transactions and read registrations and filings. It cannot approve a filing, start a registration or answer a notice, and the API has no webhooks, so the agent has to poll. Keep the key out of shared prompts: Zamp's docs say production keys carry access to live tax data.
