Anaplan is an enterprise planning platform where finance, workforce, sales and supply chain teams build connected multi-dimensional models, sold by quote and usually implemented with a partner and certified model builders.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Anaplan apps cover integrated financial planning across the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow, position-level workforce planning, consolidation with intercompany eliminations and ownership, sales forecasting and subscription revenue (product pages, checked 30 September 2026). Scenario modeling, Forecaster ML forecasts and an Excel add-in, XL Reporting and a Google Sheets add-on are documented. The breadth across functions is the core reason enterprises pick it.
Anaplan markets the Polaris engine as built to process quintillions of cells (vendor claim) and the Classic engine caps each line item block at 2,147,483,647 cells per Anapedia. Workspaces warn past 4,500 models and capacity is a purchased allowance. The engine is chosen when a workspace is provisioned and cannot be converted, which is what breaks first if a model outgrows Classic.
trust.anaplan.com (published 23 September 2026) lists SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701 and 42001, CSA STAR Level 1 and TX-RAMP. Anapedia documents selective access, cell and model history, application lifecycle management and an Audit API for SIEM export. The gaps: audit logs are kept only 30 or 90 days depending on edition, and customer-held encryption keys (BYOK) are an add-on.
Anapedia lists 14 Data Orchestrator import connectors, including SAP (HANA, BW and ECC over OData v4), Salesforce, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Oracle Database, with writeback pipelines to Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle and cloud storage. There is no native NetSuite, Workday HCM, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero or Business Central connector, so those flow through files, CloudWorks, MuleSoft, Boomi or Informatica connectors, or partners. Data Orchestrator is sold in capacity packages.
The Availability and Support SLA sets 24x7x365 support with a 2-hour Sev 1 and 4-hour Sev 2 response target and a 99.5 percent monthly uptime target. Enhanced Support costs $50K a year and is limited to HyperCare customers; Premium promises a 60-minute response at an unpublished price. The SLA says model-building help may need a Customer Success appointment at extra cost, and no independent review-site rating is cited here.
In-product AI is broad: CoModeler (available 25 March 2026), role-based Finance and Workforce Analyst agents (9 December 2025), Forecaster and Agent Studio. The external surface lags peers: the AI Gateway page describes a read-only MCP interface with no public docs, tool list or endpoint found, and the Anaplan API page says MCP servers are limited on its published APIs. CoModeler is a separate subscription and AI use is metered in credits.
Vendr's Anaplan page says implementations range from a few months to over a year and services often run 50 to 150 percent of the first-year subscription. Builds lean on certified model builders and partners; Anaplan named 12 preferred AI delivery partners on 23 June 2026. Prebuilt apps and CoModeler aim to shorten builds, but Anaplan publishes no standard timeline for its financial planning app.
anaplan.com/pricing redirects to the contact page, so every core price is a quote. The only published price found is Enhanced Support at $50K a year on the support tiers page. Vendr's public page fills part of the gap with a $114,609 median over 67 purchases, but CoModeler, AI credits, Data Orchestrator packages and BYOK are all priced separately and not published.

You are buying a multi-dimensional modeling platform with two calculation engines (Classic and Polaris) and a growing shelf of prebuilt apps: Integrated Financial Planning across the three statements, position-level Operational Workforce Planning, Financial Consolidation from the 2024 Fluence deal, plus sales and supply chain apps. Anaplan lists 2,800+ customers and 48 percent or more of the Fortune 50 on its about page (checked 30 September 2026). Thoma Bravo has owned it since June 2022. 793 live AF job postings name Anaplan (30 September 2026), a sign of a deep skills market.
The catch is cost and dependence on specialists. Anaplan publishes no prices; Vendr puts the median contract at $114,609 a year across 67 purchases and says minimums often run $100K+ a year, with implementation at 50 to 150 percent of the first-year subscription. The AI layer is sold separately: CoModeler is its own subscription and AI use burns metered AI credits. Data Orchestrator has no native NetSuite, Workday HCM or Sage Intacct connector. External AI access is the weakest part: Anaplan markets an AI Gateway as a read-only MCP link, but no docs, tool list or endpoint were found on 30 September 2026, and Anaplan says it limits MCP servers on its public APIs.
Get these in writing before signing: the renewal cap (Vendr reports 3 to 5 percent annual increases as typical but negotiable), which AI items are included (CoModeler, AI credit volume, AI Gateway access), the number of Data Orchestrator packages and their limits, the support tier and its price, whether your edition keeps audit logs for 30 or 90 days, and whether each workspace runs Polaris or Classic, since that choice cannot be changed later.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
The Integrated Financial Planning app plans revenue, opex and capex and links the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement. Finance Analyst, an AI agent, answers questions and runs what-if scenarios on top of it (vendor description, checked 30 September 2026).
Operational Workforce Planning budgets filled, open and planned positions and routes business requests through an auditable approval flow. It models hiring freezes, location moves and reductions before they are committed (product page, checked 30 September 2026).
The Financial Consolidation app, from the 2024 Fluence acquisition, handles intercompany eliminations, partial ownership, multi-currency and audit trails. Anaplan claims operational status in weeks; that is a vendor claim.
Data Orchestrator imports from SAP, Salesforce, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Oracle Database and cloud storage, and writes back to Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle and storage. It is sold in capacity packages.
CoModeler turns plain-language prompts and CSV specs into lists, modules, line items and formulas, and explains existing models. It requires a separate subscription and should be used in development models only.
Forget the 40-row feature grid. Pick a finance workflow and see how this tool and its closest peers actually do it, with our verdict on who wins for whom.
Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Platform fee plus users by type and per-application licenses, per Vendr. Vendr's median is $114,609 a year across 67 purchases.
24/7, 365 days a year through the support portal; the SLA targets a 2-hour first response on Sev 1 cases.
24/5 coverage with Advanced Support analysts, Reporting Model access and two model optimization reviews; only for current HyperCare customers.
Dedicated Premium Support analysts, phone or call-back access, a 60-minute response and four model optimization reviews; price not published.
Separate subscription for the model-building AI agent, activated per workspace through Agent Studio. AI use is metered in AI credits.
Each package adds 25 GB soft and 50 GB hard managed data, 250 soft and 500 hard datasets, and daily link and sync allowances.
Customer-controlled encryption key, listed as an add-on on the security page.
Anapedia says CoModeler is an entitled service that requires a separate subscription (checked 30 September 2026). Anaplan AI use is measured in AI credits, and users lose AI access at 100 percent of the entitlement until it is renewed. Data Orchestrator is sold in packages with storage and dataset caps. Ask for all three on one quote with overage terms.
The Data Orchestrator connector list on Anapedia names 14 sources, including SAP, Salesforce and Snowflake, and none of NetSuite, Workday, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero or Business Central (checked 30 September 2026). Those sources need SFTP or cloud-storage drops, CloudWorks, Anaplan Connect scripts, or the MuleSoft, Boomi or Informatica connectors. Budget partner time for it.
Anapedia states that workspaces are created on either the Polaris or the Classic engine and cannot be converted afterwards (checked 30 September 2026). Polaris suits sparse, high-dimensional models; Classic caps each line item block at 2,147,483,647 cells. Settle the engine per use case during design and get the workspace mix in the order form.
Vendr's Anaplan page (checked 30 September 2026) says implementations range from a few months to over a year and that fees can equal or exceed first-year software cost. The support SLA adds that model-building help may need a Customer Success appointment at extra cost. Get a fixed-fee statement of work from at least two certified partners.
Anapedia's API page says Anaplan has limited the ability of MCP servers to use its published APIs (checked 30 September 2026). The AI Gateway FAQ says initial access is read-only, and no public setup docs were found. A community MCP with write tools exists but is unofficial, so confirm in writing that it is permitted before connecting it.
Anapedia says Anaplan Audit provides 30 or 90 days of logs depending on edition and is not designed to be a permanent repository (page updated 13 March 2026). Audit must be enabled for the tenant and a tenant auditor role assigned. Pull logs into a SIEM through the Audit API on a schedule.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Anaplan markets Anaplan AI Gateway as a governed MCP interface for Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot (product page, checked 30 September 2026). No setup docs, tool list or public endpoint were found: Anapedia's Intelligence section covers CoModeler, Forecaster, Agent Studio and Anaplan Analyst only, and probes of api.anaplan.com returned no MCP or OAuth metadata. An Anaplan engineering blog says its own MCP servers sit in a DMZ-like segment and are not exposed to the public internet. Community servers exist on GitHub, such as larasrinath/anaplan-mcp, which calls itself unofficial; the official registry at registry.modelcontextprotocol.io returned no Anaplan entry.
Scope: The gateway FAQ says initial access is read-only, so external AI cannot edit, overwrite or delete models, formulas or planning data; existing Anaplan permissions apply to each request, and tool calls are logged with timestamps and rate limited. The community server wraps Integration API v2 with 70 tools, including write tools such as write_cells, but Anapedia states Anaplan has limited the ability of MCP servers to use its published APIs.
Turnkey: No self-serve path is published. Anaplan calls the gateway officially supported, but availability, setup steps and price are not public, and the product page's only call to action is a demo request (checked 30 September 2026), so expect to ask the account team. In-product AI also needs entitlements: CoModeler is a separate subscription activated per workspace through Agent Studio, and AI use draws down AI credits that stop working at 100 percent until the entitlement is renewed.
In-product AI: CoModeler builds and edits lists, modules, line items, versions and formulas from plain language and is meant for development models (Anapedia). Role-based Finance, Workforce, Sales and Supply Chain Analyst agents were announced as available on 9 December 2025. On 30 June 2026 Anaplan announced skills-based agents for the office of the CFO by October 2026, and on 10 September 2026 it described the initial rollout as expected later this year. No shipped CFO agents appeared in the newsroom or Anapedia as of 30 September 2026, so treat them as roadmap. Productivity and accuracy outcomes are vendor-claimed.
Who wins for whom: Enterprises planning finance, workforce, sales and supply chain in one connected model: Anaplan. Teams that want driver-based blocks with ML forecasts and Excel, Sheets and PowerPoint connectors: Pigment. Teams that want prebuilt Financials, Workforce and Capital modules at published per-user pricing: Oracle Cloud EPM.
Three statements in one model. Anaplan plans revenue, opex and capex across all three statements in its Integrated Financial Planning app, and the same platform carries workforce, consolidation, sales and supply chain models with scenario modeling and Forecaster ML forecasts.
Where it loses: Builds are mostly partner-led, Vendr says services often cost 50 to 150 percent of first-year subscription, and a workspace's Polaris or Classic engine cannot be changed later.

Driver-based blocks, scenarios, versions. Pigment models driver-based budgets in multidimensional blocks with scenarios and versions, covers headcount, sales capacity and three-statement plans plus ARIMA or Prophet ML forecasts, and keeps Excel, Google Sheets and PowerPoint in the loop.
Where it loses: The formula language is proprietary, and Pigment says partners lead close to 90 percent of builds, so plan for a partner to translate a legacy model's logic.

Prebuilt modules link three statements. EPM Standard ships prebuilt Financials, Workforce, Capital, Projects and Strategic Modeling modules, and Oracle says income statement changes roll to the balance sheet and cash flow; Enterprise adds custom cubes, Groovy and Monte Carlo simulation.
Where it loses: EPM Standard limits Planning to one input and one reporting cube, so custom cubes, Groovy logic and most AI features need EPM Enterprise at $500 per user a month with a 25-user minimum.

Who wins for whom: Enterprises feeding plans from SAP, Salesforce and Snowflake with writeback to the warehouse: Anaplan. Mid-market teams on NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Xero that want native scheduled imports: Pigment. Oracle Cloud ERP shops that want actuals in and budgets and journals written back: Oracle Cloud EPM.
SAP and warehouse connectors built in. Anaplan's Data Orchestrator lists 14 import connectors, including SAP HANA, BW and ECC over OData v4, Salesforce, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Oracle Database, with writeback pipelines to Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle and cloud storage.
Where it loses: There is no native NetSuite, Workday HCM or Sage Intacct connector, so those systems arrive through files, CloudWorks or an integration platform, and Data Orchestrator is sold in capacity packages.

Native mid-market ERP imports. Pigment's knowledge base lists native import connectors for NetSuite saved searches, Sage Intacct, Xero, QuickBooks, SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, Salesforce, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Redshift, with up to four schedules per import.
Where it loses: Connectors only import, SAP ECC and private S/4HANA need CSV, SFTP or Workato, and no native Dynamics 365 Business Central or Oracle connector was found.

Fusion actuals in, budgets back. Data Integration has prebuilt sources for Oracle Cloud ERP, which loads actuals and takes budgets and journals back, plus Oracle HCM, NetSuite through Oracle SuiteApps, and EBS and PeopleSoft through the EPM Integration Agent.
Where it loses: SAP data arrives by file, agent JDBC, scripting or the Oracle Integration Cloud SAP adapter, and no native connector is listed for Workday, Salesforce, Snowflake, Sage Intacct or Xero.

Anaplan announced independent certification of its AI management system against ISO/IEC 42001.
Anaplan announced skills-based agents for FP&A, treasury, controllership and other CFO functions by October 2026, deployed on Amazon Bedrock. Not yet verified as shipped.
Anaplan announced availability of its model-building agent and custom-agent toolkit and 12 prebuilt apps, including Subscription Revenue Planning and Profitability Analysis.
Anaplan launched hosting on AWS in Singapore to support local data sovereignty needs in Southeast Asia.
Finance, Supply Chain, Sales and Workforce Analyst agents were announced as available, with CoModeler in limited customer availability since November 2025.
Anaplan announced its placement in the Leaders quadrant; Gartner evaluated 14 financial planning software providers.
Anaplan publishes no prices. Vendr's public page shows a median contract of $114,609 a year across 67 purchases, with a 10th to 90th percentile band of $30,590 to $301,931 (checked 30 September 2026). Vendr says mid-market buyers usually deploy one or two applications with 10 to 50 users, and larger enterprises run 50 to several hundred users across several applications.
Add implementation. Vendr puts services at 50 to 150 percent of the first-year subscription, so a median deal implies roughly $172,000 to $287,000 in year one (Audit Friendly estimate from the Vendr median). CoModeler, AI credits, Data Orchestrator packages and paid support tiers are on top.
Vendr says Anaplan sells annual or multi-year subscriptions, with 2 to 3 year terms unlocking better pricing and minimum commitments tied to users or scope. It reports typical renewal increases of about 3 to 5 percent, which buyers often negotiate down. Anaplan's public SaaS Subscription Agreement (PDF on anaplan.com, checked 30 September 2026) gives 30 days after termination or expiration to retrieve client data, including model data and dashboards, after which Anaplan may delete the account. Ask for a longer retrieval window in the order form if a migration will take more than a month.
Data leaves through the public Integration API v2, export actions and Data Orchestrator writeback pipelines to Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle Database, S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage or SFTP. Model logic is a different matter: lists, modules and line-item formulas are Anaplan constructs that do not port to another tool, so export documentation (CoModeler can generate it) before the term ends.
Vendr's Anaplan page says implementations range from a few months to over a year. Anaplan publishes no standard timeline for its financial planning app; it claims the consolidation app reaches operational status in weeks, which is a vendor claim.
Most projects are run by certified partners or Anaplan professional services, with certified model builders doing the build. Anaplan lists 250+ partners and named 12 preferred AI delivery partners on 23 June 2026. Plan on an internal center of excellence to own the models afterwards.
Partly. Anaplan markets the AI Gateway as a governed MCP connection for Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, but the FAQ says initial access is read-only and no public setup docs, tool list or endpoint were found on 30 September 2026. The product page offers only a demo request, so ask the account team whether the gateway is available on your contract.
Anaplan's API docs say it has limited the ability of MCP servers to use its published APIs. A community MCP server (larasrinath/anaplan-mcp) wraps Integration API v2 with read and write tools but is unofficial. Inside the product, CoModeler and the role-based analyst agents do the AI work, under a separate subscription and AI credits.
