Cube is spreadsheet-native FP&A software for mid-market finance teams: models stay in Excel and Google Sheets while Cube pulls governed actuals from the ERP, CRM and HRIS, now with AI agents and a read-and-write MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
The Cube MCP Server is first-party, hosted and generally available, with 30 tools documented in the help center (checked 30 September 2026), including 12 build and write tools. Writes need a separate Use MCP (Write) permission, and figures or Table rows land only in scenarios an AI created or a person opened for AI. In-product, Charlie, the Planner Agent, Smart Forecasts and Smart Variance cover analysis and scenario building, though Charlie messages and MCP data and write calls draw on a metered credit pool.
Cube's security page (checked 30 September 2026) lists SOC 2 Type II examined by Dansa D'Arata Soucia, HIPAA, SAML SSO, MFA and full audit logs, and the August 2025 product update announced HIPAA compliance. The audit trail records before and after values, publishes can be undone, scenarios and time periods can be write-protected, and MCP writes are flagged as AI-originated. The site footer claims SOC 1 but the security page does not, and no ISO 27001 or data residency choice is listed.
The NetSuite connector is native, read-only and built on token auth and saved searches (help center, August 2026), and Cube lists guides for Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero, Dynamics 365 BC, Rillet, Campfire, Salesforce, Workday, ADP, Snowflake and Databricks. Imports run on a schedule or on demand, and nothing writes back to source systems. Some connections run through Boomi, and Snowflake, on-premise databases and QuickBooks Desktop can require a customer-hosted Boomi Atom.
Cube's integration pages quote about two weeks for Sage Intacct and Xero and two to four weeks for QuickBooks, Dynamics, Workday and Snowflake, led by Cube's implementation team. Because models stay in spreadsheets there is little rebuild, and the NetSuite guide (August 2026) needs only the NetSuite admin's token and saved search. A May 2026 help article warns that warehouse sources can expand scope mid-project, and Vendr notes mention a $10,000 implementation fee.
Standard support runs by email and a public Zendesk help center with detailed, recently updated articles. Premium Support (24/7/365, live troubleshooting, priority tickets, dedicated staff) is bundled only in Gold or sold as an add-on, per the pricing and support pages checked 30 September 2026. Cube's footer cites a 4.5 out of 5 G2 rating, but G2 blocked direct verification.
Cube stores data in an OLAP cube with scenarios, formulas, tags and Tables for headcount rosters and drivers, and its rolling forecast and cash pages show 13-week and rolling views. The Planner Agent (documented June 2026) builds new scenarios from plain-language prompts and TABLE_LOOKUP lets formulas read driver tables. Three-statement linking and most driver logic still live in your spreadsheet model, which caps the score against web-native modelers.
The pricing page promises unlimited dimensions and users, and NetSuite subsidiaries map to Cube entities with multi-currency rollups. The Xero and Workday integration pages say transaction volumes over one million records load at a consolidated level, and the Dynamics page cites up to 8 top-level dimensions with 25 attributes. The public API defaults to 5 requests per second (OpenAPI spec, checked 30 September 2026).
The pricing page names Bronze, Silver and Gold plus add-ons (Premium Support+, Additional Modules, API Access) with no prices. Vendr publishes a $22,098 a year median from 58 purchases, but its community notes report a proposed renewal increase of about 50 percent and compute-based units without rollover. AI credit costs per call are published, while credit pack prices sit behind sign-in.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
You are buying a governed data layer under the spreadsheets your team already runs. Cube connects to NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero, Salesforce and warehouses, maps the data into a multi-dimensional cube, and lets analysts fetch and publish from Excel or Google Sheets. Business users get web reports, Boards and Tables. In 2026 Cube added Charlie, a Planner Agent, Cube Decks for PowerPoint and Slides, and an MCP server that lets Claude or ChatGPT read the model and write back into sandbox scenarios.
The catch is money and structure. Cube is quote only, the AI layer runs on a metered credit pool whose pack prices are not public, and Vendr community notes report a renewal where Cube proposed about a 50 percent increase. The modeling logic still lives in your spreadsheets, so Cube adds governance more than a driver engine. Structural changes such as editing the Time dimension or adding custom dimensions go through Cube support, and some connector pages say loads above one million transactions arrive at summary level.
Before signing, get in writing: the renewal cap, which tier includes MCP write access and how many AI credits come with it, the price per extra credit, the implementation fee (Vendr notes mention $10,000), who writes the SQL for warehouse sources, whether a SOC 1 report exists (the footer claims one, the security page lists only SOC 2 Type II), and the export format for your data and Boards if you leave.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Ask why opex ran over in March and Claude pulls the financial slice, then drills to the transactions behind the line, with Cube permissions applied. Cube's MCP page walks through this exact example. Reads of structure, Boards and history are free; data pulls cost 5 credits each.
Claude or the Planner Agent copies the budget into a new scenario with duplicate_scenario, adjusts drivers and publishes figures into it. Scenarios an AI creates are opened for AI write-back automatically, while Budget, Forecast and Actuals stay protected unless a person opens them.
Analysts fetch live actuals into existing workbook ranges, update the forecast and publish every range at once, with one grouped audit trail entry per batch. Refreshable drilldown ranges (Q3 2026) pull current transactions without rebuilding the view.
Cube Decks (documented July 2026) puts refreshable Cube visuals into PowerPoint and Google Slides, so a filter change and Refresh update the deck. The 40-slide example and the claim that it is current in a few clicks come from Cube's product updates log, so treat the time saving as vendor-claimed.
Rosters, pipeline and capex lists live in Tables that sync both ways with Excel and Google Sheets, with dimension-linked and calculated columns. Formulas can read rates and drivers from Tables through TABLE_LOOKUP, and Business users see Tables read-only.
Each NetSuite subsidiary maps to a Cube entity, and FX handling and roll-ups are configured during implementation. Cube's consolidation page shows intercompany eliminations and currency translation and says one model runs management, legal and reporting views. Treat that legal view as a vendor claim and test a statutory close on your own entities before retiring an ERP or consolidation tool.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Full platform access, custom roles, unlimited dimensions, users and dashboards for teams getting started.
Marked most popular. Adds Slack and Teams, workflow automation, PowerPoint and Slides integration and MCP integration.
Adds Premium Support and all integrations and workflows; pitched at enterprise FP&A.
Pricing page says the agent teams and the MCP Server come with every tier, though the plan cards list MCP only on Silver and Gold.
Add-on available with any plan; configured through sales.
Add-on available with any plan; modules are not itemized on the page.
Add-on for the public REST API; the MCP server is listed separately.
Shared pool used by Charlie (25 per message) and MCP calls (5 per data call, 125 per write); pack prices need sign-in.
Fee mentioned in a Vendr community note; one buyer had it waived for signing by month end.
Cube's help center (checked 30 September 2026) prices a Charlie message at 25 credits, an MCP data call at 5 and any MCP build or write call at 125. Cube's own example shows 20 data calls plus one publish using 225 credits, and a board-deck prompt can take dozens of calls. When the balance runs out, calls are blocked. The articles explaining credit packs and top-ups require sign-in, so ask for the per-credit price and the included allowance in the quote.
Vendr's Cube page (checked 30 September 2026) quotes a buyer whose renewal came with a proposed increase of about 50 percent, cited as inflation and pricing-structure changes, cut to about 20 percent for 12 months. Another buyer faced a 10 percent uplift and negotiated a flat renewal. A third describes compute and volume-based units with no rollover and higher overage rates. The notes are undated, so confirm current terms and write a renewal cap into the order form.
On the pricing page checked 30 September 2026, the Bronze card omits MCP Integration, Silver and Gold list it, and a lower section says the Cube MCP Server comes with every tier. Cube's MCP page says the server is generally available to all Cube customers and usage limits may apply, and the 2026 Product Updates log says it became available to all customers in Q1 2026. Get the tier, the write permission and the credit allowance for MCP in writing before you plan Claude workflows around it.
Cube's Dimensions overview (updated 6 July 2026) says date ranges are set during implementation and cannot be edited directly, and that adding or changing dimensions means contacting support. Admins can now rename and delete custom dimensions themselves (Q2 2026). The Xero and Workday pages add that volumes over one million records load at summary level. Plan the dimension design carefully before go-live.
A May 2026 help article explains that a warehouse feed scoped as one table often turns into a multi-table join once Cube connects, and that someone on your side must write or validate the query. Snowflake, on-premise databases and QuickBooks Desktop can also need a Boomi Atom server that your IT team hosts and keeps online during imports. Bring data engineering into scoping and ask for a technical pre-assessment.
Every Cube page footer checked on 30 September 2026 reads SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2 Certified, while the security page and its FAQ describe only a SOC 2 Type II examination by Dansa D'Arata Soucia, with reports on request. No ISO 27001 certification or data residency option is listed; data sits on AWS. If your auditors rely on a SOC 1 for planning data, request the report itself.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Yes. The Cube MCP Server is first-party and hosted at mcp.cubesoftware.com. Cube's 2026 Product Updates log lists it as available to all customers in Q1 2026, and on 30 September 2026 the endpoint returned OAuth metadata advertising read, write and introspection scopes.
Scope: Read and write. The help center lists 30 tools: 16 read tools over the chart of accounts, dimensions, financial slices, transaction drilldowns, Boards, planning Tables, tags, workflows, source connections and change history; 12 build and write tools including publish_data, duplicate_scenario, create_formula, create_dashboard, write_planning_table_data and initiate_import; and 2 session tools. Figures and planning Table rows land only in scenarios an AI created or a person opened for AI write-back; Boards, tags, formulas and workflow drafts sit outside that scenario rule. Each write is flagged as AI-originated in the audit trail.
Turnkey: Largely. A user adds https://mcp.cubesoftware.com/ as a custom connector and signs in through OAuth, with no key to paste. On Claude Team and Enterprise an Owner adds the connector first, a Cube admin grants Use MCP (Read Only) or Use MCP (Write), and paid calls draw on the company's AI credit pool: 5 credits per data call and 125 per build or write call, while reads of structure, Boards, Tables and history are free.
In-product AI: Charlie answers questions in the web workspace, Excel, Google Sheets, Slack and Teams; the Planner Agent builds scenarios from plain language; Smart Forecasts and Smart Variance handle forecasting and variance explanation. Cube's own accuracy study reports 100 percent of 531 figures correct through the MCP server against 60.7 percent from Excel files, but it ran on Cube's own books, so treat it as a vendor claim.
Who wins for whom: Spreadsheet teams that want headcount Tables and a Planner Agent building scenarios over an OLAP cube: Cube. Teams keeping all model logic in Excel templates with Low, Mid and Best cases: Datarails. Teams ready to leave spreadsheets for Variables, Dimensions and inheriting Scenarios: CFO.ai.
Scenarios over your spreadsheet model. Cube stores data in an OLAP cube with scenarios, formulas and Tables for headcount rosters and drivers, shows 13-week and rolling forecast views, and its Planner Agent builds new scenarios from plain-language prompts.
Where it loses: Three-statement linking and most driver logic still live in your spreadsheet model, and adding or changing dimensions, including the Time dimension, goes through Cube's support team.

Your Excel model, with scenario cycles. Datarails maps scenarios, scenario cycles such as 1+11 and 0+12, and Low, Mid and Best planning cases onto existing Excel templates, rolls the forecast forward, and lets budget owners submit numbers from the Excel add-in.
Where it loses: No dedicated workforce, revenue or driver-based engine appears in the product pages or help center, so driver logic stays in your spreadsheets.

Variables, Dimensions and inheriting Scenarios. CFO.ai models use Variables, Dimensions and formulas with separate Actuals and Forecast ranges, Scenarios that inherit from Main and merge back, an HRIS-built Headcount page and a documented three-statement build skill.
Where it loses: There is no Excel or Google Sheets front end, and every workspace member is an administrator, so on Audit Friendly's reading a budget owner cannot be limited to one department's numbers.

Who wins for whom: NetSuite teams that want a native saved-search connector with scheduled or on-demand imports: Cube. Teams on Sage Intacct, Xero or Business Central that want actuals flowing into existing Excel reports: Datarails. Single-entity companies on QuickBooks Online or Xero that want native connectors at a published price: CFO.ai.
Native NetSuite, scheduled imports. Cube's native NetSuite connector reads saved searches over token auth, guides cover Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero, Business Central, Workday, Snowflake and Databricks, and imports run on a schedule or on demand.
Where it loses: Nothing writes back to source systems, and Snowflake, on-premise databases and QuickBooks Desktop can need a Boomi Atom your IT team hosts and keeps online during imports.

Scheduled read-only ERP connectors. Datarails' help center documents scheduled connectors for NetSuite saved searches, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central and Snowflake, and actuals flow into existing Excel reports through DR.GET formulas and a Refresh button.
Where it loses: The vendor claims 600+ sources, yet the pricing page includes 1 integration on Professional, 2 on Premium and 3 on Expert, and every documented ERP connector reads only.

QuickBooks and Xero native, nightly. QuickBooks Online, Xero and Rippling are standard native connectors on plans from $375 a month billed annually, NetSuite and databases run through Fivetran, and all ingestion is read-only with a nightly refresh.
Where it loses: A workspace holds one QuickBooks Online company and one Xero organisation, so a second entity arrives by CSV that never refreshes on its own, and NetSuite or warehouses need the custom-priced Enterprise plan.

The AI Analyst was renamed Charlie and gained an AI Hub with a prompt catalog across four agent teams; the Planner Agent builds new scenarios from plain-language requests.
Refreshable Cube visuals inside PowerPoint and Google Slides, with AI-built charts on the deck's theme. Help articles were published 12 July 2026.
Cube's 2026 Product Updates log, created 6 July 2026, lists write-back under Q2 2026: AI tools can publish figures, create and copy scenarios, build Boards and create tags, behind a separate write permission. The log names the quarter only, with no exact release date.
The MCP Server, listed under Q1 2026, connects Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients to Cube over OAuth with Cube permissions enforced. The setup guide was first published 22 January 2026.
Cube added its AI Analyst to Microsoft Teams in May 2025, after the Slack launch in April, so budget owners can ask plain-language questions of governed Cube data in chat.
Cube is quote only. Its pricing page lists Bronze, Silver and Gold plans plus add-ons for Premium Support+, Additional Modules and API Access, with no prices shown (checked 30 September 2026).
Vendr's public benchmark shows a median contract of $22,098 a year across 58 purchases, with a 10th to 90th percentile band of $12,794 to $34,200. Add a possible implementation fee (a Vendr note mentions $10,000) and AI credits if you plan heavy use of Charlie or the MCP server. Premium Support comes only with Gold or as an add-on.
Cube does not publish its subscription terms; the public terms of service cover website use only. Vendr community notes describe annual contracts based on compute and usage volume, no rollover of unused units, higher overage rates, and renewal increases of 10 to about 50 percent proposed by Cube. Multi-year terms are the main lever for a rate lock.
Getting out is simpler than leaving a web-native planner, because your models already live in Excel or Google Sheets and Cube reads source systems without writing to them. The Data Exporter emails an export file, and the API (an add-on) has export endpoints. Formulas, Boards, Tables and mappings built inside Cube do not travel, so ask for an exit export of those in writing.
Cube's implementation team leads the setup. Integration pages quote about two weeks for Sage Intacct and Xero, one to four weeks for Salesforce and two to four weeks for QuickBooks, Dynamics, Workday and Snowflake (vendor figures, checked 30 September 2026).
Your side supplies the ERP admin (for NetSuite, a read-only token and an approved saved search), the FP&A lead for mapping and dimension design, and data engineering for any warehouse source, where scope often grows once Cube sees the real tables. Dimension design deserves care, because later changes to the Time dimension or new custom dimensions go through Cube support.
Yes. The Cube MCP Server is generally available at https://mcp.cubesoftware.com/ with OAuth sign-in and 30 documented tools. With Use MCP (Read Only) Claude can query slices, drill to transactions, and read Boards, Tables, workflows and change history. With Use MCP (Write), which only Finance and Admin users can hold, it can publish figures, create or copy scenarios, build Boards and Tables, draft workflows and start an import. The pricing page lists MCP Integration only on the Silver and Gold cards while also saying the MCP Server comes with every tier, so confirm in writing that your plan includes it (checked 30 September 2026).
Guardrails are real. Figures and Table rows land only in scenarios an AI created or a person opened for AI write-back, each write is flagged in the audit trail, and Claude cannot edit existing formulas, restructure dimensions, delete assets, change permissions or write to source systems. Data pulls cost 5 AI credits and builds or writes cost 125, while reads of structure, Boards, Tables and history are free, so broad prompts cost more.
