Datarails is an Excel-first FP&A and reporting platform that pulls ERP, CRM and HR data into a governed database under your existing spreadsheets, built for SMB and mid-market finance teams that want automation without leaving Excel.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Datarails runs a hosted, first-party MCP server, documented in its help center and listed with a verified badge in Claude's connector directory; on 30 September 2026 the endpoint answered with a 401 and OAuth metadata. All 24 documented tools are read-only and write tools are only on the roadmap. Strategy, Planning and Reporting agents launched 21 January 2026; their outcome claims are vendor-claimed.
The FP&A page promises a dedicated CSM with a finance background at no extra cost, and the pricing page splits standard support (Professional) from premium support (Premium and Expert). The help center describes service packages for financial statements, budgets, forecasts and user training. The only rating evidence cited here is the vendor-displayed G2 4.9 and Capterra 4.8 badges (homepage, checked 30 September 2026).
Datarails publishes a 4 to 6 week average go-live with no code or IT required, and CFO Shortlist reports two weeks on a fast path to about 12 weeks at full scope (August 2026). The Datarails integration team builds connectors, but NetSuite setup still needs an admin, a SuiteBundle, a custom role and access tokens. The Playground is a 90-day solo training org built from a course template, so there is no documented full copy of production for testing changes.
The vendor claims 600+ sources (its integration sitemap listed 437 connector pages on 30 September 2026), and the help center documents connectors for NetSuite saved searches, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central and Snowflake, plus SQL, SFTP, email and OData methods. Every documented ERP connector reads only, on schedules the user sets; the help center calls automated integrations a paid feature, and the pricing page includes 1 to 3 per plan. Bank feeds sit in the separate Datarails Cash module.
The MCP technical docs (updated 26 August 2026) state that Datarails is SOC 2 certified, and CFOtech reported in March 2026 that it also cites GDPR and ISO 27001. The pricing page lists version control, permissions down to entity, department and report, and routed workflows with a submit step; Month-End Close added audit package exports in June 2026. The SOC report type, any SOC 1 report and the ISO 27001 certificate were not publicly verifiable on 30 September 2026, and per-tool-call MCP audit events were still in development.
The pricing page caps users at 2, 5 or 15 plus 50 viewers and integrations at 1, 2 or 3 (checked 30 September 2026), and the help center sets a 100MB limit per uploaded file. Multi-entity consolidation, multiple charts of accounts and currency translation are built in, and the vendor states 2,000+ customers. Model logic still lives in Excel workbooks, which is the likely first limit as volumes grow (Audit Friendly estimate).
Planning runs on scenarios, scenario cycles such as 1+11 and 0+12, and planning cases such as Low, Mid and Best mapped onto Excel templates (help center Planning Overview), with roll-forward in the Forecast module. No dedicated workforce, revenue or driver-based engine appears in the product pages or help center, so model logic stays in your spreadsheets. The Planning Agent adds ad-hoc what-if analysis; its accuracy is vendor-claimed.
Quote only: the pricing page names three plans and publishes user, integration and module differences but no dollar amounts (checked 30 September 2026). Vendr shows a $33,300 median across 25 recorded purchases in its page data (updated February 2026) and reports separate implementation fees and 3 to 5 percent escalators, which sit awkwardly beside the vendor's no-consultant-fees line. Fortune and CFOtech reported a move to usage-based pricing in March 2026, so even the pricing unit is in flux.

What you are really buying is a governed database and connector layer under the Excel files your team already runs. Datarails pulls actuals from systems like NetSuite, Sage Intacct and QuickBooks Online, maps them once, and feeds them back into Excel through DR.GET formulas, dashboards and board decks. Consolidation across multiple charts of accounts, currency translation and intercompany eliminations is listed on every plan. Since March 2026 the same layer, branded FinanceOS, also serves Claude and ChatGPT through a hosted MCP connector, with Copilot also listed by the vendor.
The catch is that the modeling is only as deep as your spreadsheets. As of 30 September 2026, the product pages and help center show no dedicated workforce or driver-based planning module; planning is scenario cycles mapped onto Excel templates. Plans cap users and integrations tightly (Professional lists 2 users and 1 integration), so the connector catalog the vendor puts at 600+ is a menu, and sources beyond the plan's count need a bigger plan or a separate quote. The AI connector is read-only; the pricing page lists it on every plan, but the docs call it a paid feature that needs an active connector subscription. The public API only pushes files in.
Before signing, get in writing: which integrations, how many users and viewers, and which modules the price covers; whether any implementation or services fee applies, given the pricing page's no-consultant-fees promise; the renewal escalator and term length; whether the FinanceOS AI Connector and AI agents are included or metered; and how the 45-day post-termination download window in the terms of service applies to your Fileboxes and models.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Actuals land in Datarails on a schedule and flow into existing Excel reports through DR.GET formulas and a Refresh button. The P&L, balance sheet and KPI pack update without re-pasting exports. Your plan's integration count limits how many sources feed it.
The pricing page lists multiple charts of accounts, currency translation, intercompany eliminations and JV investment accounting on every plan. That covers a mid-sized group's management consolidation without a separate CPM tool. Statutory consolidation needs should be tested in a demo.
Budget owners fill a template in Excel and press Submit, which sends the numbers to a Datarails Filebox with version tags. Workflows route budgets and forecasts to reviewers. A Google Sheets add-on for the same reporting work was documented on 28 September 2026.
With the FinanceOS AI Connector enabled, a controller can ask Claude for actuals versus budget by department and get an answer computed server-side under their own permissions. The Claude plugin turns that into Excel workbooks or decks. Nothing can be written back through the connector.
In the Month-End Close module, Audit Package Export bundles reconciliation balances, sign-off evidence, manual adjustments and supporting documents per entity. It was documented on 16 June 2026. Month-End Close is a separate module from FP&A.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
FinanceOS reporting, planning and dashboards with 2 users and 1 integration. Includes Datarails AI agents, the FinanceOS AI Connector and standard support.
Everything in Professional plus Spend (cards, bill pay, contracts), 5 users, 2 integrations, AI Storyboards and premium support. Marked most popular.
Everything in Premium with 15 users plus 50 viewers and 3 integrations. The plan card lists Cash Management, Month-End Close, Receivables and Desk.
Datarails Cash, Month-End Close, Spend Control and Desk can be layered onto any plan. Expert includes one of Cash, Month-End Close or Spend Control per the feature table.
The pricing page promises no consultant fees and the FP&A page includes a dedicated CSM. Vendr reports separate implementation fees of $10,000 to $40,000 or more in some deals.
Help center lists packages for custom financial statements, metrics, budgets, forecasts, ad-hoc reporting and new user training.
The pricing page lists 1 integration on Professional, 2 on Premium and 3 on Expert (checked 30 September 2026). The help center's Integration Methods article (updated April 2026) calls automated integrations a paid feature and says new connections go through support and the integration team. Datarails says it connects to 600+ systems; its integration sitemap listed 437 connector pages on 30 September 2026 (Audit Friendly count), and March 2026 launch coverage said 400+. A company with an ERP, a CRM, an HRIS and a billing system can outgrow Professional on day one. Price every source you need before you sign.
The MCP technical documentation (updated 26 August 2026) lists 24 tools and says all are read-only, but adds that this is not an enforced read-only scope and write tools are on the roadmap. The connector inherits each user's full Datarails permissions, with no narrower AI-only scope. Per-tool-call audit events from the MCP layer were still in development, and the service is hosted in the United States. Restrict sensitive tables through Datarails permissions before rollout.
The Datarails pricing page promises no consultant fees. Vendr's Datarails page (last updated February 2026) reports separate one-time implementation fees of $10,000 to $40,000 or more and annual escalators of 3 to 5 percent. The help center also lists professional services packages for budgets, forecasts and reports. Ask for a quote that states every one-time and recurring fee, and cap the escalator.
The Data Gateway Service API (help center, updated April 2026) uploads CSV or Excel files into a Filebox with basic authentication, and the API user must not have MFA enabled. The guide suggests encoding credentials on a third-party website; do that locally instead. Reading data out programmatically goes through the paid MCP connector or the Excel and Sheets add-ins.
Planning in the help center is built from scenarios, scenario cycles and planning cases mapped onto Excel templates. No dedicated workforce, revenue or driver-based planning module appears in the product pages or docs (checked 30 September 2026). Vendr's comparison also notes workforce planning as a Planful strength that Datarails does not natively support. Teams that want headcount or driver logic in the platform should test it in the demo.
Playground organizations (help center, March 2026) are built from a course template, expire after 90 days by default, cannot add other users, and are only for FP&A license holders. They do not mirror production data. Plan changes to mappings and templates with that in mind, or ask whether a paid sandbox exists.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Yes. Datarails runs a hosted MCP server at mcp.datarails.com/mcp. On 30 September 2026 an unauthenticated initialize call returned a 401 that points to published OAuth protected-resource metadata. Datarails FinanceOS appears with a verified badge in Claude's connector directory, and a separate Claude plugin (v3.5.0, released 22 September 2026 on GitHub) adds finance skills in Claude Code and Cowork. It does not appear in the official MCP registry.
Scope: Read only. The technical documentation (updated 26 August 2026) lists 24 tools that list data models, read rows, run server-side aggregations, profile fields, list KPIs and return FX rates. None create, update or delete anything. Datarails says the read-only behavior comes from the current tool list; there is no enforced read-only scope, and write tools are on the roadmap. Each user reaches only what their Datarails role allows, and one tool returns user names and emails.
Turnkey: Partly. There is nothing to host, and each person signs in with OAuth and PKCE through auth.datarails.com. The pricing page lists the FinanceOS AI Connector on all three plans, while the technical docs (updated 26 August 2026) call it a paid feature that needs an active connector subscription and Super Admin enablement per organization in AI Center. Per-tool-call audit events from the MCP layer were still in development when the docs were last updated, and the MCP service runs in the United States.
In-product AI: Datarails sells Strategy, Planning and Reporting agents (launched 21 January 2026), Storyboards for board decks, and an in-app assistant documented as beta in September 2026. Claims about faster or more accurate forecasts are the vendor's own; no independent test was found.
Who wins for whom: Teams keeping driver logic in their own Excel workbooks with scenario cycles and Excel budget submission: Datarails. Spreadsheet teams that want headcount Tables and AI-built scenarios over an OLAP cube: Cube. Excel-first teams that want driver-based and employee-level workforce plans held in a central database: Vena.
Your Excel model, with scenario cycles. Datarails maps scenarios, scenario cycles such as 1+11 and 0+12, and Low, Mid and Best planning cases onto existing Excel templates, rolls the forecast forward, and lets budget owners submit numbers from the Excel add-in.
Where it loses: No dedicated workforce, revenue or driver-based engine appears in the product pages or help center, so driver logic stays in your spreadsheets.

Scenarios over your spreadsheet model. Cube stores data in an OLAP cube with scenarios, formulas and Tables for headcount rosters and drivers, shows 13-week and rolling forecast views, and its Planner Agent builds new scenarios from plain-language prompts.
Where it loses: Three-statement linking and most driver logic still live in your spreadsheet model, and adding or changing dimensions, including the Time dimension, goes through Cube's support team.

Excel front end, OLAP cube behind. Vena keeps the full Excel front end over a relational and in-memory OLAP database, with driver-based plans, what-if scenarios and employee-level workforce planning that carries US, Canadian and UK payroll tax logic.
Where it loses: Three-statement links depend on how each template is built, Vena publishes no model size or dimension limits, and a Capterra reviewer reports slowdowns when many users work in large reports.

Who wins for whom: Excel teams on QuickBooks Online, Xero or Business Central that want actuals refreshing inside existing reports: Datarails. NetSuite teams that want a native saved-search connector with on-demand imports: Cube. Business Central or Dynamics 365 F&O shops that want a direct connector with drill-through: Vena.
Scheduled read-only ERP connectors. Datarails' help center documents scheduled connectors for NetSuite saved searches, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central and Snowflake, and actuals flow into existing Excel reports through DR.GET formulas and a Refresh button.
Where it loses: The vendor claims 600+ sources, yet the pricing page includes 1 integration on Professional, 2 on Premium and 3 on Expert, and every documented ERP connector reads only.

Native NetSuite, scheduled imports. Cube's native NetSuite connector reads saved searches over token auth, guides cover Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero, Business Central, Workday, Snowflake and Databricks, and imports run on a schedule or on demand.
Where it loses: Nothing writes back to source systems, and Snowflake, on-premise databases and QuickBooks Desktop can need a Boomi Atom your IT team hosts and keeps online during imports.

Direct Business Central and Fabric connectors. Vena documents a direct Business Central connector on API v2.0 with one-click refresh and drill-through, has six generally available Microsoft Fabric connectors including Dynamics 365 F&O, and lists NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero and SAP.
Where it loses: The integrations page does not say which sources use Vena-built connectors versus Fabric pipelines or flat files, and pushing data out through the Export API costs extra on both plans.

The help center documented a Google Sheets add-on that refreshes Datarails reports and drills into underlying records inside Sheets.
Datarails released v3.5.0 of its FinanceOS plugin for Claude Code and Cowork, with skills for variance, anomalies, reconciliation and an Excel add-in agent.
A new Office add-in replaces the Windows-only COM add-in, installs from the Office store and updates automatically. It requires Microsoft 365; perpetual Office is not supported.
Datarails launched FinanceOS, a governed data layer that connects to Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot through MCP. Fortune reported a shift toward usage-based pricing alongside it.
Datarails launched three AI finance agents that answer questions and generate PowerPoint, PDF and Excel outputs from unified data. Outcome claims are the vendor's own.
Datarails announced a $70M Series C, bringing total funding to $175M. It reported 70 percent revenue growth and more than 400 employees in 2025.
Datarails is quote only. Vendr's public page shows a median contract of $33,300 a year, with a low of $16,231 and a high of $62,037 that match its 10th and 90th percentiles across 25 recorded purchases (last updated February 2026, checked 30 September 2026). Vendr's guide text separately puts mid-market deployments of 15 to 30 users with several ERP and CRM integrations at $60,000 to $120,000 a year, above most of the purchases it recorded.
Your number depends on the plan's user and integration caps (2 users and 1 integration on Professional, up to 15 users plus 50 viewers and 3 integrations on Expert) and on modules such as Cash or Month-End Close. Ask whether any implementation fee applies; Vendr reports $10,000 to $40,000 or more in some deals despite the vendor's no-consultant-fees line.
Contracts are annual subscriptions under an order form. Vendr reports that Datarails prefers two to three year terms and that escalators of 3 to 5 percent a year are common, so negotiate a cap or flat pricing.
The terms of service give 45 days after expiration or termination to download your content, after which Datarails may delete it. Your Excel models stay in your own files, but the mappings, Fileboxes and dashboards live in Datarails, so export them before the window closes.
Datarails publishes a 4 to 6 week average for FP&A, with no code or IT required. CFO Shortlist reports two weeks on a fast path and about 12 weeks at full scope with consolidation and close (August 2026).
Datarails' integration team sets up connectors and a dedicated CSM guides the build. Your side supplies an ERP admin (NetSuite needs a bundle, a custom role and tokens), maps GL accounts to the reporting structure, and connects existing Excel files.
Claude can read it. Datarails runs a hosted MCP server, listed in Claude's connector directory, with 24 read-only tools for tables, filtered rows, aggregations, KPIs and FX rates. Each user signs in with OAuth and sees only what their Datarails role allows.
Claude cannot change anything through the connector, and write tools are only on the roadmap. The pricing page lists the connector on every plan, but the technical docs (updated 26 August 2026) call it a paid feature that a Super Admin controls, so confirm in the quote whether it is included or metered. Datarails' own Strategy, Planning and Reporting agents run inside the product.
