Planful (formerly Host Analytics) is a cloud financial performance management platform for mid-market and enterprise finance teams that want budgeting, forecasting, close, consolidation and reporting in one system, sold by quote.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
trust.planful.com lists SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 27701:2019, plus a HIPAA Business Associate Addendum (checked 30 September 2026). The platform page says access is set at entity, account and dimension level and every change is logged with user and timestamp. The sub-processor list shows hosting in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland and Australia, so data residency is a real choice. Gartner named Planful a Challenger in its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Financial Close and Consolidation (Planful blog, 12 March 2026).
Planful covers template and driver-based budgeting (Structured Planning), free-form multidimensional models (Dynamic Planning), rolling forecasts, workforce planning with Workforce Pro, scenarios and cash flow forecasting. Consolidation handles intercompany eliminations and currency translation, and Spotlight for Microsoft 365 is a native Excel, PowerPoint and Word add-in (May 2026). The two engines mean two modeling styles and two API families to learn.
The Service Level Addendum promises under four hour call-back on Essential Support and under two hours on Pro Support, with 24x7 critical phone support on both. Every customer gets Essential Support; Pro Support, Pro Support Plus and extra Administration Services hours are paid, with Administration Services hours beyond the 15 a month in Pro Support Plus billed at $175 an hour. Planful also commits to 99.5 percent production availability with service credits, and its own trust page shows 100 percent for most months since September 2025.
The integrations FAQ lists pre-built connectors for SAP S/4HANA and ECC, NetSuite, Oracle, Dynamics 365, QuickBooks, Acumatica and Sage Intacct, plus Workday, ADP, Salesforce, HubSpot and Snowflake (checked 30 September 2026). The NetSuite connector reads through SuiteAnalytics Connect and SuiteQL, and the Snowflake connector (June 2026) pulls on a schedule. Xero is not listed, and CFO Shortlist (August 2026) reports that SAP integration is limited and needs a third-party iPaaS or custom API work, despite Planful's listed SAP connectors.
Planful reports 1,500+ customers and 74,000 users, and its platform FAQ claims millions of GL rows across thousands of entities without a rebuild (vendor-claimed). CFO Shortlist (updated August 2026) reports that performance degrades on input templates beyond roughly 400 lines. The published sandbox terms cap a sandbox database at 500 GB. Run a load test at your own volume before signing.
Planful's support page claims a 4-week average time to go-live (vendor-claimed). CFO Shortlist reports 8 to 12 weeks for mid-market deployments and 3 to 6 months when consolidation is complex. Partners such as Bakerfield Solutions and RSM UK deliver projects, and Vendr reports implementation fees of 30 to 100 percent of first-year subscription.
A first-party MCP server launched on 20 July 2026 with OAuth sign-in and read-only access to reports, actuals and variance data, Claude only today (planful.com/platform/mcp). Its hosted endpoints are live and return OAuth metadata (checked 1 October 2026), but Planful publishes no setup guide or tool list, and the help center requires a customer login. In-product, Analyst Assistant went GA on 8 October 2025 and Planner Assistant on 29 April 2026. The public REST API covers data loads, extracts and user admin.
There is no public price list: planful.com/pricing returns a 404 and the company information page describes pricing tailored to size, users and modules. The only published fee found is $175 an hour for Administration Services overage. Vendr shows a $40,352 median across 73 purchases (February 2026), while the July 2026 MSA prices renewals at then-current list, so first-year discounts do not carry forward by default.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
You are buying one cloud platform for the budget, the forecast, the close, the consolidation and the board pack. Planful started as Host Analytics, founded in 2001 (reported), and says it serves more than 1,500 customers. Consolidation is the strength third-party buyer guides single out: intercompany eliminations and currency translation run inside the platform. Planning sits on two engines, Structured Planning for GL-based budgets and Dynamic Planning for free-form models.
The catch is commercial. Pricing is quote only, and the Master Subscription Agreement dated 1 July 2026 prices renewals at Planful's then-current list price, with earlier discounts dropped unless agreed in writing. Subscriptions cannot be reduced mid-term. The AI story is real but narrow: the MCP server is read-only, works with Claude today, and has no public setup guide or tool list.
Before signing, get a renewal cap in writing. Confirm which modules and user types are in the quote, and whether Spotlight, Workforce Pro, a sandbox and Pro Support are included. Ask for the MCP endpoint, its tool list and how calls are logged. Ask for two references that run both planning and consolidation at your entity count, and for the exact export format you get at exit.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Planful runs intercompany eliminations and currency translation inside the platform, so the parent rolls up without spreadsheet bridges. Planful claims the roll-up takes hours instead of the week after close; that is a vendor claim. Gartner placed it as a Challenger for close and consolidation in March 2026.
Spotlight for Microsoft 365 links Excel, PowerPoint and Word to Planful data, so a refresh updates every linked slide and table. Planful's May 2026 post says permissions and audit history follow the data into Office files. Confirm whether Spotlight is in your quote.
Workforce planning pulls positions, salaries, start dates and departments from the HRIS. Workforce Pro, launched July 2025, adds compensation modeling and cost tracking. Vendr reports workforce planning is one of the most common paid add-ons.
With the MCP server, an analyst can ask Claude for the Q3 OpEx forecast against plan and get an answer built on the reports that user can already see. Access is read-only, so nothing in Planful changes. ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini are announced but not yet supported.
NetSuite Connect queries NetSuite through SuiteAnalytics Connect and SuiteQL, pulling GL and transaction data on a schedule. Planful's May 2026 post says Ubiquity had data flowing within two hours of starting. Check that your NetSuite account has SuiteAnalytics Connect enabled.
Planner Assistant projects each account from closed actuals using trend, seasonality and step changes, and flags accounts drifting off plan. Planful says every projection shows the drivers behind it. Treat accuracy claims as vendor-claimed until your own back-test confirms them.
Forget the 40-row feature grid. Pick a finance workflow and see how this tool and its closest peers actually do it, with our verdict on who wins for whom.
Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Planning, reporting, close and consolidation modules priced by users and modules. No public list price.
Customer portal, case submission, toll-free phone, under 4 hour call-back and 24x7 critical phone support.
Under 2 hour call-back, 40 consulting hours a year and unlimited Academy seats. Plus adds 15 administration hours a month.
Applies to Pro Support Plus, which includes 15 Administration Services hours a month. Each hour over 15 in a month is invoiced at $175.
Annual or short-term order. Database capped at 500 GB and decommissioned with its data at term end.
Professional services quoted separately. Vendr reports 30 to 100 percent of first-year subscription.
Section 5.1 of the Master Subscription Agreement (version dated 1 July 2026) says a renewed subscription is priced at Planful's then-current list price. Discounted, promotional or one-time pricing does not carry into renewals unless expressly agreed in writing. Section 4.1 adds that subscriptions cannot be decreased and fees are non-refundable. Negotiate a renewal cap and the right to reduce seats into the order form (checked 30 September 2026).
Under MSA section 5.2, you must request data retrieval in writing within 28 days of termination or expiry. Planful then gives temporary access to export in a machine-readable format; extraction beyond standard export is billed at professional services rates. After 28 days without a request, client data is permanently deleted. Plan the export of models, templates and history before the last term ends (MSA dated 1 July 2026, checked 30 September 2026).
Planful's MCP FAQ says every connection is read-only: an AI tool can pull and reason over reports but cannot create, edit or delete anything. Claude is the only supported client today; ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini are announced as next (planful.com/platform/mcp, checked 30 September 2026). Planful-run endpoints are live in North America, Europe, Australia and Canada (checked 1 October 2026), but Planful publishes no setup guide or tool list, and the help center needs a customer login. Ask for the tool list and audit logging before you plan an agent workflow around it.
Planful's public API collection splits into Structured Planning APIs, which use an Access ID and Access Key as basic auth, and Dynamic Planning APIs, which use access tokens that do not expire. Data loads run through Data Load Rules, and a single transfer request over 40 MB returns an error. Integration work and admin skills therefore differ by engine (developers.planful.com, checked 30 September 2026). Ask which engine each of your models will live in.
Planful's sandbox terms say a sandbox database cannot exceed 500 GB and refreshes are requested through a support ticket. At the end of the paid sandbox term, the sandbox is decommissioned immediately with all its data unless a new order form is signed. Budget for it if you want to test model changes before each planning cycle (planful.com/legal/sandbox-info, checked 30 September 2026).
CFO Shortlist (updated 26 August 2026) reports that Planful recommends input templates of about 400 lines and that load times and timeouts rise beyond that. Planful's own platform FAQ claims millions of GL rows across thousands of entities without performance trade-offs. The two claims are not reconciled publicly. Test your largest template with production volumes during evaluation (reported).
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Yes, first-party and hosted. Planful announced its MCP Server on 20 July 2026 and lists it in the product menu at planful.com/platform/mcp. The service is live: Planful-run MCP hosts for North America, Europe, Australia and Canada answer requests and return OAuth sign-in metadata (checked 1 October 2026). Planful has not published the endpoint address, a setup guide or a tool list: the help center asks for a customer login, and the official MCP registry returned no Planful entry (checked 30 September 2026). Vena and Workday Adaptive Planning both publish their tool lists; Planful does not yet.
Scope: Read-only by design. Planful's FAQ says an AI tool can pull and reason over Planful reports but cannot create, edit or delete anything. Today it covers reports, actuals and variance data; Spotlight data and workforce data are announced as coming. Dimension security, scenario security and role-based access apply before data leaves Planful.
Turnkey: Partly. Users sign in with their Planful credentials over OAuth, so no developer build is needed, but Claude is the only supported client today, with ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini announced as next. Ask Planful how an admin turns it on, which regional endpoints exist and whether MCP calls land in the audit log.
In-product AI: Analyst Assistant (GA 8 October 2025) answers variance questions in plain language, and Planner Assistant (GA 29 April 2026) projects each account forward and flags drift. Planful says its AI runs in part on OpenAI. The vendor claims early adopters cut manual analysis by up to 70 percent; no independent account confirms that.
Who wins for whom: Teams that want template budgeting and free-form scenario models with Workforce Pro headcount planning: Planful. Teams running rolling and zero-based forecasts across standard, modeled and cube sheets: Workday Adaptive Planning. Excel-first teams that want employee-level payroll tax logic behind an Excel front end: Vena.
Two engines for budgets and scenarios. Planful pairs template and driver-based budgeting in Structured Planning with free-form multidimensional models in Dynamic Planning, adding rolling forecasts, scenarios, Workforce Pro headcount planning, cash flow forecasting and a Microsoft 365 add-in.
Where it loses: The two engines mean two modeling styles and two API families to learn, and CFO Shortlist reports input templates slow down beyond about 400 lines.

Driver-based and rolling forecasts. Adaptive Planning runs driver-based, top-down and bottom-up budgets plus rolling and zero-based forecasts on standard, modeled and cube sheets, with workforce and sales plans in the same model and OfficeConnect for Excel.
Where it loses: Workday markets unlimited what-if scenarios, but its limits reference caps them at 15 per user and each cube sheet at 10 custom dimensions, so test complex designs in the sandbox.

Excel front end, OLAP cube behind. Vena keeps the full Excel front end over a relational and in-memory OLAP database, with driver-based plans, what-if scenarios and employee-level workforce planning that carries US, Canadian and UK payroll tax logic.
Where it loses: Three-statement links depend on how each template is built, Vena publishes no model size or dimension limits, and a Capterra reviewer reports slowdowns when many users work in large reports.

Who wins for whom: Teams on NetSuite, Dynamics 365, Acumatica or Sage Intacct that want pre-built connectors: Planful. Workday HCM and Financials customers that want plans published back to Workday: Workday Adaptive Planning. Business Central shops that want a direct API connector with one-click refresh: Vena.
Pre-built connectors across mid-market ERPs. Planful lists pre-built connectors for SAP S/4HANA and ECC, NetSuite, Oracle, Dynamics 365, QuickBooks, Acumatica and Sage Intacct, and its NetSuite connector pulls GL and transaction data on a schedule through SuiteAnalytics Connect and SuiteQL.
Where it loses: Xero is not listed, CFO Shortlist reports SAP integration is limited and needs a third-party iPaaS or custom API work, and a single data transfer over 40 MB returns an error.

Native NetSuite, Intacct and Workday sources. Design Integrations lists native data sources for NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Dynamics GP and Workday HCM and Financials, plus Cloud Data Connect for Snowflake, Fabric and Incorta, with NetSuite drill-through and plan publishing back to Workday.
Where it loses: QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central, SAP and Oracle have no named adapter, so they connect through JDBC via an On-Prem Data Connector, scripted sources, spreadsheets or partners.

Direct Business Central and Fabric connectors. Vena documents a direct Business Central connector on API v2.0 with one-click refresh and drill-through, has six generally available Microsoft Fabric connectors including Dynamics 365 F&O, and lists NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Xero and SAP.
Where it loses: The integrations page does not say which sources use Vena-built connectors versus Fabric pipelines or flat files, and pushing data out through the Export API costs extra on both plans.

The MCP Server lets Claude pull Planful reports, actuals and variance data under existing permissions over OAuth. ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini are announced as next.
Planful's Snowflake Connector pulls GL actuals, transactions, workforce data and drivers from Snowflake on a configurable schedule.
A native add-in for Excel, PowerPoint and Word that refreshes reports and board decks from Planful data, with drill-through to transactions.
A conversational assistant that generates projections, detects anomalies and analyzes variances, built on the Planful Predict engine.
An agentic assistant for variance questions in plain language. Planful says it runs on OpenAI plus its own calculation engine.
Board member John Herr, former CEO of Adaptive Insights, replaced Grant Halloran as CEO after six years. Vector Capital remains the largest shareholder.
Planful does not publish prices. Vendr reports a median of $40,352 a year across 73 purchases, with most between $9,565 and $69,031 (Vendr's 10th to 90th percentile; guide last updated February 2026, checked 30 September 2026).
Bigger scopes cost far more. Vendr's narrative cites $50,000 to $500,000 or more a year depending on modules and users, and CFO Shortlist reports $250,000 to $500,000 for mid-market planning plus consolidation (reported).
Add implementation: Vendr reports 30 to 100 percent of first-year subscription. On Pro Support Plus, Administration Services hours beyond the 15 included each month are billed at $175 an hour.
Subscriptions run on order forms under the Master Subscription Agreement dated 1 July 2026. Fees are non-cancelable, subscriptions cannot be decreased, and renewals are priced at then-current list unless you agree otherwise in writing.
At exit, you must ask in writing within 28 days for temporary access to export your data in a machine-readable format. Extraction beyond the standard export is billed at professional services rates, and data is deleted after the 28 days.
The SLA gives a credit of one twelfth of the annual fee for a month below 99.5 percent availability, and a right to terminate after three such months in a row.
Planful claims a 4-week average time to go-live on its support page (vendor-claimed). CFO Shortlist reports 8 to 12 weeks for mid-market and 3 to 6 months for complex consolidations (reported).
Planful professional services or a partner runs the build; Bakerfield Solutions and RSM UK appear in Planful's own case material and on YouTube. Your side needs an FP&A owner, a controller for consolidation rules and IT for ERP access.
Claude can read from it. Planful's first-party MCP server, announced 20 July 2026, lets Claude pull reports, actuals and variance data the user is already cleared to see, over OAuth.
It cannot write. The MCP server cannot create, edit or delete anything, and other assistants (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) are announced but not yet supported. Writes such as data loads go through the REST API documented at developers.planful.com.
Planful's hosted MCP endpoints are live (checked 1 October 2026), but each customer appears to connect through its own enrolled address, and Planful has not published a setup guide or tool list. Ask Planful for both, and for how MCP calls are logged, before you plan an agent workflow.
